I just attended two of the New York shows with my girlfriend last week (City Winery and The Chance Theatre). In the two years we've been dating she's become a casual fan of Live...and has gone to multiple Live shows with me...but obviously she's not attached to the band like I am, having been a fan much longer.

I figured first I'd share some of her thoughts...

The first thing she said is "Isn't he sad at all playing these songs with different people?"

The next thing she said was "How could he say he went down to Austin and came back with three NEW best friends..."

She found that pretty lame, then when on to add "If these are his best friends...why aren't they presented as a new band with a new name, and not just Ed Kowalczyk..."

And finally..."why do the guitarists just sit in the background the whole time?"

Those were just some interesting comments I thought....and I really didn't have any good answers other than "i don't know...it's just all about Ed now...you don't make new best friends over night."

With that said, I really did love the shows. But they aren't the same as Live shows. Throw out the last tour...but prior to that the interaction was always great, I always loved Ed and Chad hopping around the stage together on Lakini's Juice.

I still find Ed to be a great performer and in my eyes he's capable of putting on a good show and he still owns my favorite voice. Yes it's sad that it isn't Live anymore...but I am really looking forward to TGF album and tour as well judging from what I've heard so far. I like music, but would not consider myself to be capable of assessing the difference between two drummers or two guitarists. I can honestly say that when they played the old Live songs I could not hear a difference between the two bands. I think in part it's due to the songs they choose to play...If they played LJ, Shit Towne, WD or Waitress the difference might be more noticeable.

All in all, I do really like Ed's new music...and as always the songs sounds a million times better live than they do on album...I don't like it nearly as much as classic Live, but I do still like it. The back up musicians may not be as great as the guys from Live...but I don't think they need to be for the style of music that Ed's going for.
