Actually a #4 debut for the Netherlands mainly had to do with Ed's work ethic and label support. As a new artist going off without his former band, I think it was a great debut for the album. The drop wasn't unexpected, but I feel the album will hang around on the charts at least through his tour in September.

The rise in Belgium was phenomenal however!

"Alive" will not be a huge seller in the US, but he has been using and the album and single as a touring tool quite effectively. The single has been played consistently in markets where Ed is promoting an upcoming concert and he has been drawing good crowds to the shows. Albums sold at shows don't report to soundscan, but he has been picking up a ton this week!

I'm curious to see how the album does in Austalia.

I think you're yearning for a past that didn't really exist. Maybe in the early days of rock and roll, as with any new genre, it may have been true. But once someone makes it with a new sound, so many others are sure to follow in search of that buck.
