Alive, Has anyone heard the CD?? Options

If possible, can we keep this thread to discuss music and not argue with each other?

Let's face it. Most of us are not objective. I am going to be brutally honest with my prediction right now. It's not what I want to see happen. What I want to see happen is for Ed to be moderately successful so that I can continue to hear his voice and hear his uplifting music. And I want TGF to be HUGELY successful because the guys deserve it, and I love their music, and I think that they should be the next Audioslave on merit alone. But if you put a gun to my head, here is what I think will happen:


The idea of the drummer, bassist and lead guitarist of the 90's rock band called Live (none of whom anybody outside of York, Pennsylvania or this message board can identify by name) and the lead singer of the one-hit 90's rock band Candlebox is not exactly going to make the kids today go wild and probably isn't going to set the world on fire. Should they? Absolutely Yes! Will they? Probably not. I don't think that TGF will be a blip on the music scene and we might not get another album after this one. So I am going to enjoy the heck out of every drop I can get right now because I am loving it.

Likewise, the news of "that bald guy who sang Lightening Crashes" who is older and more out of touch with the kids today isn't going to sell out arenas or crank out number one hits. I saw "Eddie K" play to about 75 people in the attic music room at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. That's about what I think we should expect. Should he be able to get popular? He's got a great voice. And he is making music that resembles what people want today. He seems to have tried to model a career path after his one-time admirer Daughtry. And if he doesn't make it, it wouldn't be for a lack of trying. Arguments aside, the guy sure works hard and knows how to play the game and work the business of the music business. But I don't think that people will care about songs from "the bald guy my mom used to like in college". Especially because Ed's music sounds like everybody else's music and it doesn't distinguish itself, and people are already plugged into the trendy artists that are cool to like.

So one of them might catch lightening in a bottle and grab a hold of that unexplainable, seemingly random "it" that catapults one band out of a million into stardom and popularilty. I mean, why in the world is Brett Michaels popular again? Both Ed and TGF have the goods to make it happen. Clearly in different genres now. But I don't think it is going to happen for either one of them. Look at SFBM which came from "Live". The US release of that album and its singles was an abortion. And the album and tour didn't make a ripple on the fabric of the music scene.

In the end, I think both ventures will fail to deliver success and we will all be faced with a long dry spell for about a decade. Ed will keep playing Live songs and make a living off it. CCP may go off the scene for a while. Then, in the year 2020, Live will reunite for a reunion tour and we will all get to see them at our local Summer State Fair. Then they will try to make another album, and it will be about as well received as a new album from Britney Fox or REO Speedwagon or Corey Hart. But all of us will love it and if Nick hasn't broken this website up and used it for firewood by that time, we may all meet back here in 2020 and start the Ed verses CCP debate all over again.
