Based on what we know, who do you feel will have more success in the near future when it comes to album sales, general public perception and reputation?

I think we all know who gives Eddie K. his one vote on this poll.

I definately favour the sound of TGF and the music they are putting out over Ed's stuff. I don't know who will be more successful though - how do you rate success? Album sales? Lyrical content? Sound?

I think TGF are setting out to do their thing - play their brand of music - something they wanted to do for a long time - I think they also realise that the die hard LIVE fan (like some of us) have been looking for the sound of the early 90's LIVE and they wanted to give that back to us. So from that stand point, that in itself is a success.

In terms of record sales, it will just depend on what the rest of the world want - I'm not sure the majority of people out there will go out and buy this record just because it is a great rock n roll record. I think they will go with what's mainstream and what's played on mainstream radio and that's what Ed is doing and he's obviously milking the word 'LIVE' and his association with the band as much as he can to 'sell' what he's doing, so he might be more recognisable to those outside the LIVE fanbase.

Not many people are gonna hear TGF and know 'Wow that's 3/4 the band LIVE, they sound good, I'm gonna buy me that'.

It's a tough one - but sound wise, it's TGF hands down.

Everything these days is image, marketing and mainstream radio play. Music videos may no longer rule like they did in the 90s and 80s, but having a defined image and easily categorized sound is still really important for financial success.

QUOTE(Infrequent Poster @ May 21 2010, 9:21 pm) *

This isn't an easy question to answer. By strict album sales I would not be surprised if Ed pulled ahead of TGF as Ed's sound is more in line with what today's radio plays. TGF gets those of us who grew up in the late 80s and 90s really excited, but does it translate to the younger folk? Or to people on the other end of the spectrum? Hard to tell, though my guess is both will do relatively well, but neither will see multi-platinum success

Unless you're pop or "urban" music, and one of the original giants like U2, not many see multi-platinum these days. And multi-platinum what? Individual song downloads? I'm not even sure I understand the measure of success based only on music sales anymore. Maybe that's why everybody has a reality show, or a clothing line or some such shit.

Hey I've got an idea for a reality show based on ex-members of Live. Just give me a little time to flesh it out.

QUOTE(Bremang @ May 22 2010, 1:59 am) *

Album sales, public perception, reputation - I'd have to count Ed to win because most of the public is uniformed, and Ed Kowalczyk is famous as the rock star from Live. Of all the variables, I think that is the strongest factor in this equation. Ed has lots of built up worldwide reputation points to burn.

Given what I said about image above, I'd agree with Bremang that Ed has a certain advantage. He's had a higher public profile, he can be pegged into a category (singer/songwriter), niche market/s (adult alternative, Christian rock, maybe even adult contemporary). The bald head means he's even more recognizable although these days people might confuse him with Daughtry laugh.gif
