Found a collection of videos from the Ed [full band] show in Amsterdam. One of the new tracks is titled "Just in Time"

so you think the norm is that non die-hard fans rather see a band that they dont know any songs of than bands they know a few songs of?

It took me awhile to process what you meant by that. But all I'm saying is that it's silly to only want to go to a gig if you can be promised to hear all the hits.
For example, I'm going to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in July ... I wouldn't say I'm a super fan, but I like what I have heard so far. My knowledge of them is limited, there are 4-5 songs of theirs I really really love, but I'm not going to be put off by the fact that they may not play those songs. They might play songs I don't know and I might really dig them and get into it. Nick seems to act like people need to be assured that they can sing along to all the songs on the night to be able to go and have a good time .. I just think that is an incredibly close minded view and attitude towards music.

When Live hit Starland in 2009, the crowd was dead for the first half of the show, which contained: Hold Me Up, Gas Hed, Top among other obscure songs that hardcores have been dying to hear. Once Live played their hits the second half of the show, the entire crowd ate it up.

The hits are what gives the show energy. The more energy the crowd has, the better the band usually performs.

The people who will buy Alive or TGF's album will be miniscule to the people who already are very familar with the hits of Live and Candlebox. Not playing the hits will suck the energy out of a concert(ask the Counting Crows).

I think that's mostly because their longtime, hardcore fanbase had already stopped coming to shows, Nick. That leaves the people who are there because they know Live sang Lightning Crashes and they had nothing better to do that night. I noticed the same thing at the Meadowbrook show in June 2009. Most people just stood there except during, IA, STD, LC, WD, etc..

The only reason I went to that show was because I had heard they pulled out Gas Hed and Hold me Up. In retrospect I am glad I got to see them one more time. But my days of seeing every show I could had been over for a while.

Now it's all about Widespread Motherfucking Panic!!! rockin.gif

Live overtoured at the end of their run. Once they lost their label, they played shows in the Northeast roughly 20 times per year. They wore out their regular fans, and a Live concert no longer became special, it was run of the mill event.

That is why the break is very good for the band.

Actually their setlist improved with variety after the BOP tour. We got a lot of great songs back in the setlist every year after 2004.

yeah see you and I have different ideas on what a setlist change actually means. At the very end they did it, but for a long time before that it was stagnant.

Look at Pearl Jam for example. They played four nights at the Spectrum in Philly, different setlist every night, songs they have'nt played in years or never, and even if they did play a different song it wasnt in the same spot as the night before.

Thats how you change up a setlist and keep things fresh.
