Ed responds to allegations, Well, sorta Options

In a recent article Life after Live in a Dutch magazine, Ed responds to the allegations brought forward by Chad Taylor (secret contract, leadsinger bonus). Sort of.

Without specifically denying anything, Ed says he does not recognize himself in the stories. "Lots of misunderstandings and an incorrect picture of my character", he says. "Live split indefinitely. Will we ever reconcile? Hard to tell, but I don't see it happening anytime soon."

Should it not hurt after twenty years of Live? Ed seems liberated other than left alone. "I had an enormous need for change. If you play in the same band for twenty years, you reach a point of saturation. I wanted something new, I wanted to keep developing. That's why I took this road. When all those disturbing stories started circulating, end of last year, I could let it slip easily. I was so focussed on my new album, my new songs, that I barely gave it attention."

That's bullshit and he knows it. I'm sure he read every single thing that was written about him. I too (and I'm sure many people) focus on other things when facing something they don't wanna face.
And if it is true then thanks for neglecting to explain your side of the story to all the Live fans.
Not shitting on Ed, I just want his side of the story and so far his statements are vague cop outs.

Exactly right. He's got far too big of an ego to not read everything written about him.

I also find it sad that he said he 'didn't focus any attention' on the allegations. It's too bad, Ed, because you lost a significant portion of your fan base during that time.

I think that interview is very enlightening actually. I hate to say it, but Ed's response is pretty much the response I would expect from a guilty person who did what he was accused of. I have been in enough arguments with people to know that when someone is wrong and they have an ego, they think that they were not wrong, there was just a "misunderstanding" and it is not in their character to do the things they were accused of. Few people can look in the mirror when they are fighting with someone else and see themselves for what they are. Most people have an ego that tells them thhat although the facts they are confronted with may be true, there is a "misunderstanding" because they aren't a bad person. He certainly didn't deny the facts. If someone didn't sign publishing contracts to exclude his 3 band-mates or ask for a lead singer signing bonus, the reasonable response would be - that didn't happen, I never signed any contracts or ask for a bonus.

And for him to say that he paid no attention to the serious allegations made against him and the responses, or focus at all on the destruction of the band he has been in for 20 years and that sold millions of albums and friendships with his best friends who now hate him and won't talk to him, is ridiculous. Absolutely ridifculous. I'm calling bullshit here. And it is insulting to me that he thinks he can even say that as if someone will accept it. Nobody, I mean nobody is that detatched from the world and their personal feelings and relatinships. Especially not someone this focused on commercialism and fans and his career. These accusations go straight to the heart of his career. The end of Live directly hits his pocketbook. And he didn't focus on it? And if he is that detatched, and he did not spend any time thinking about his band, his fans and his friends, then he has some serious sociopathic issues. But I don't believe that for a minute. The fact that he thinks his fans will just accept this - "Oh, Ed hasn't given any thought to the end of his lifelong band, lifelong friendships and public damage to his professional credibility because he was so focused on the new album" is insulting to the intelligence and maturity of his fans. His one and only tweet about the accusatoins was correct, his fans do deserve better than this. But I don't know that we will ever hear it.

It's as if his head is on another planet or something. I don't think there has been much humanity in the way he has treated this whole affair. Whether CT was accurate or not in what he said, you could tell that he cared. I wouldn't be too surprised to find Ed hasn't focused on it, as it seems he's more or less got what he wanted now.

Ed was out promoting his new CD. Why should he harp on the break-up during a press tour?

TGF and Ed both lost some fans over the email. It was downright stupid and childish thing to publish it in a public forum. Chad Taylor hasn't always shown the best judgement when it comes to publishing blogs though.

Perhaps because he hasn't released his statement/side of story? He knows that's the biggest thing regarding Live right now. Hell, I'd bet every interview he's done and will do will be mostly to find out what the fuck happened with Live. Those interviewers don't really give a shit about his album, they just wanna get the dirt out (from both sides). So get used to it. Until everything comes out in the open, they will all be asked these questions.
