Pop?, Is that necessarily bad? Options

I see the term Live has went "pop" being thrown around left & right here, Is pop music bad? I've listened to SFBM numerous times now & it is still rock music, Every song may not be your particular cup of tea but being a Live fan I did like the album. I think some fans get in the bad habit of comparing every new release to "Throwing Copper" & that will be a recipe for disaster every time. That album is a what put Live on the national map, a Top 100 Rolling Stone Album of all time, There will never be another TC, the sooner the true Live fan realizes that the quicker you can enjoy their subsequent releases. They are older,they have lives/kids,etc. Their sound has changed somewhat, the lyrics Ed writes now is because he's in a different space then he was in 1994. That's music. There is nothing wrong with that. Most artists who have 6-7 albums style or sound has changed, that's life. Do I like every song they've released...No but I don't hold up everything in a litmus test compared to "Throwing Copper", Simply put there won't be another "Throwing Copper", quit expecting that & enjoy(when possible)

I don't think pop is an overly bad thing. my old man Morrissey is pop. To me though I think Live is just making bad pop. There are some things you're good at and some things you're not good at. Live are good at making rock music, not pop. Yes there are much worse pop bands out there than what Live has turned into that's true.
But you look at a pop band like hell I dunno, this new band in England here called McFly .. they are fucking SHIT. They're a pop band trying to be emo which is .. wow, really bad. But the thing is they've never really done anything good.
Live has shown what an awesome rock band they can be and now it just seems like a fall from grace. If they could actually pull it off without betraying their talent and creativity then I'd be all for it.

As to comparing stuff to Throwing Copper, well you look at any band and everything seems to get compared to some other album they've done .. it's just a way of life for fans to do that.
I'm not one of these people hoping for TC 2, like I said in another thread there is a difference between accepting change and accepting a drop in the quality of material.

So yeah, I don't think pop is always a bad thing .. I think you have to look through more shit to find the good stuff, but there is good stuff .. I just don't think it works for Live though.
