Please tell me where TGF said they would be sounding like Live???? I think this band's purpose is to rock out, incorporate many classic elements into something new and fresh. I hear that. I am not going to bash those who don't like it.

Those who are under 25 years old, you're from another generation where music is not pure and basic and raw, it's manufactured, overproduced and cheap. I can understand your point of view on why it doesn't resonate. We didn't get Jimmy Page & Robert Plant in the States after the mini 07 reunion..........they were done and gone by the time I was old enough to really hear them & get it on the radio.

Kevin, Chad, Sean, Pat & Chad, bring me some Out on the Tiles, Four Sticks...... and some new generation Robert Johnson / John Lee Hooker rip at your soul riffs !!!! kicking.gif thumbsup.gif

Thank you. These people whining that they can't hear the "Live" sound are driving me crazy. Last I checked, Live wasn't recording music right now. I hear sounds from a lot of different bands fused into some kickass sounding songs.

I listened to Believe on youtube again and compared it to Believe 2.0. I understand that Kevin wrote the lyrics for the new version and Ed wrote the lyrics for Believe. The difference is striking. The new version compared to the old version is like listening to the work of a trained professional verses an amateur. The new version is so much more creative.

I am not an Ed hater. But I am finally getting the guts to start telling it like I honestly see it. For some reason, up until recently, I have kept my criticisms to myself, as if it would be some sort of sacrilege or heresy to say anything negative about Live or Ed.

The difference between those two versions really highlights somthing that has been bothering me for years. Ed's melody in Believe sounds a little like River Town at the begining, and then the lyrics start to go into that "believe", "my friend", "point of no return" stuff that has been appearing in so many recent songs. Ed's music and lyrics have really become rehashed copies of the same themes and melodies over and over again. Maybe he has been like that for a really long time. There is so much -- water, fish, river, "oh lord, child", "ooh ooohs", dreams and now laterly it is "Zion" and "take my hand" and "make it through" and "believe". It's like he is stuck in a creative hole and he can't get out. And what's more, it seems that musically and instrumentally, he can't seem to be able to make a leap from where he is into some really original-sounding music, like everything before the V album. What happened to the 17 year old Ed who had so much more creativity? I can't even imagine Ed writing a song like White Discussion or Rattlesnake or Negation at this time. We just got to hear Mall Rat and Photograph and I am sure that I am not the only one who said to himself "Holy sh*t, where did the magic those 4 guys had go?!?!" I listened to Death of a Dictionary the other night and I was so blown away by what those guys did. There is such a great version of Good Pain on there and it is cool to see how they improved and evolved the sound when it made it onto Four Songs and MJ. The song Libra is epic. That song stays in your head for a long time. That was an Ed Kowalczyk who was practically just a child! It almost seems like Ed himself is frustrated and trying very hard to dig up some new creativity and he is overcompensating with over the top self-promotion and he comes across like he is trying too hard. It is coming across to me as sort of wierd. This is a guy that I practically worshiped as an enlighted inspiration and now I frequently cringe.

This has bothered me for a while. Then when you add on top of that the bizaar behavior, and unanswered questions about Live, I just don't know how to deal with it. I want to love Ed for the first 4 Live albums he helped create. I just can't get over it. I'll buy his albums and see his shows. I can't quit Ed. But I feel like I can't be the same huge fan of his until he starts acting cool and laid back and normal and starts demonstrating some creative range. I'm stuck somewhere in the middle.
