Stumbled across this old interview with Ed I hadn't heard before. It was recording on Dutch radio prior to the release of The Distance To Here. He talks in depth about the writing process, and notably states that they wrote 50 songs for the album and recorded 25 ( omg.gif tongue2.gif ).

He also mentions how the riff for Where Fishes Go was originally back to front. They played what Chad had written backwards, and then based the song around that (Pearl Jam did something very similar for Binaural's 'Light Years' - because the original demo sounded too much like 'Given To Fly' smile.gif ).

For interest's sake I had a quick go at reversing the riff as it appears on the album to see what it might have originally sounded like. Turns out it's not all that different (and hard to decipher with the backwards drums), maybe a bit more 'conventional' if anything. Anyhoo for those interested:

I wonder if alot of those unrecorded songs were eventually recorded or slightly rewritten for "V"? Maybe Patrick will give us some mote songs locked away sometime in the future!

I remember when Gracey was hanging it on Ed about the lounge act a few months ago, he referred to Everlasting Love as a "new song", quotation marks and all. I wondered then if large parts of Ed's material may have been rehashed from unreleased older songs; kinda like holding on to Overcome to release on V, for example.
