I just read his most recent blog:

Greetings!
I'm gonna go out on a metaphorical limb with this blog...I'm warning you ahead of time! Santa Claus came early for me this year with a brand new espresso machine, imported from Italy. I have spent the last week grinding, measuring, tamping and dosing my way into amateur barista geekdom. With espresso, it's all about extracting the essence of the coffee beans. Deep down in those dark beauties, behind a labyrinth of technical variables, lies the perfect espresso. It just so happens that this same week, I launched the EKL Fanclub. As I watched the memberships stream in, it dawned on me. I was watching my essential fans pour into the cup, if you would. I am sipping you slowly, savoring every moment and wow, you all are tasty. Thank you!!!!

love,
eddie k

PS. You all SMUSHED the servers for eddieklive.com with your AMAZING response to the free EKL Fanclub Membership and the Bootleg! If you experienced any delays or hangups, please feel free to try again...we've made adjustments and you should be able to get right in and join now!

I know he claims he's being metaphorical, but the image the line highlighted in red paints is a little creepy. Perhaps it would be better to stick in the real world!

While CT's discussion of starsigns and all was... interesting, at least his blogs deal with real life struggles and issues. According to Ed all of life is LOL-able and an opportunity to drink coffee.

I think this is kind of bogus.
Chad T gives us naked emotion and more. He rambles on for hundreds of words about star-signs, Hindu godsand what-all, making some people uncomfortable, then bares his psyche in a way that makes other people uncomfortable, but that's all good in some people's minds.
Ed, on the other, makes himself totally opaque. His lyrics are water, god, love, repeat. His blog is love: he loves us, he loves something else and most of all, he loves coffee. He's completely covered. And he gets trashed for that, probably justifiably so.

Can we maybe agree that some kind of blog post mid-way between these extremes would be nice? A little more of the real person for Ed, a little less of the inner person for Chad. And a lot less coffee and astrology/religion for both.

I don't think it is "bogus," it is a matter of personal preference. For example, one of my favorite artists is Matthew Good. He has become known not just as a musician but as a political writer. While I don't always agree with his political stances, its very interesting to hear his opinion. In addition, he often gets very personal in both his blogs and his lyrics. If you think CT is personal you haven't seen anything.

It all comes together to create a very personal connection to the artist, and I prefer that approach. Artist to fan communication is huge in the music business right now, and I think both CT and Ed realize that and are expressing their personalities as they see fit. That means both the good and the bad, not the distant artists of the past.

Simply put, they can both really do whatever they want. If fans don't like it, they don't have to read it. To me, the music and the personality of the artist are very connected, so it is very neat to actually know more about the musicians, good or ill.

Okay, you got the wrong end of the stick. I meant the grounds for criticism are sometimes bogus, not the posts themselves.

Ah, I still think my post is applicable. Ed's posts make me more uncomfortable than Chad's, but I'm used to having artists spill their guts I suppose.
