Swami's Contribution to the Post-Live Demand for Material

(AGAIN, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT...YOU'VE HEARD A LOT OF THIS ALREADY...JUST UPLOADING WHAT I HAVE NOT SEEN AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD)

Swami's Contribution of Rare Live Material (FOLLOW THIS LINK)

01. Anouk (featuring Sarah Bettens) - I Alone

Anouk is a Dutch musician who has formed something of a following in The Netherlands and the surrounding area. She has also been an active Live fan for many years (as has the majority of Holland). This is a studio recording of her and another European artist named Sarah Bettens performing I Alone.

02 - 04. Live - Dance With You (featuring Anouk) (Studio)

To comprehend the above diagram, please first have an entry level understanding of trapezoids (see image below).

A bit of a misnomer when I say that these 3 tracks are "studio" versions. It is true that Live recorded their version (which is, in fact, the album version) of Dance With You in a studio. However, the Anouk vocals were not performed at the same time. What happened, in truth, was:

The Distance to Here had been out for some time, and Anouk was Dutch, and therefore, naturally, a fan. It had been reported among fans and even FOL employees that Dance With You would likely be a single from the record. In mid-2000 it was commonplace to speculate the tracklist of the yet-unannounced forthcoming single. In May of 2000 (not very long after the 3rd commercial single from TDTH (They Stood Up For Love) was released), I managed through a variety of very sneaky means to nuzzle my way into the FOL group and gain access to some rather obscure releases. In the summer of 2000, I probably could have obtained anything by Live...ANYTHING at all...but I decided to be diplomatic and treat this invitation with admiration and respect. So, in short, I had my foot in the door, and I was in prime position to receive just about anything short of a blowjob. The extremely short version of the story is that I was approached by FOL to supply and maintain the discography on the official site. I agreed, but the conditions were always changing, to the point where I was no longer really in charge of any maintenance...so I jumped ship. I left FOL in the dust, taking all my researched info and code with me. But not before securing a few fistfuls of collectibles. Of the most notable items I obtained were:

-The entire set of prototype discs in the making of the 2000 FOL Holiday Gift. Every single thought and brain-fart that surfaced within FOL during the year 1999 which might have contributed in some way to this release was in my possession. Ultimately, despite the prominence and popularity of Live at the time, this burrowed down to a mere 8 CD-Rs handed down to me directly by FOL. In the upcoming 2010 revamp of Live Collector's Resource I plan to document these 8 discs in much more detail. The prototype discs currently reside somewhere in South Africa.

-The other main gems I received (alongside a handful of original TDOAD covers) were the unreleased Dance With You duet sessions. At the time of obtaining them, They Stood Up For Love was becoming stupid-huge in Holland and nobody gave a damn about the next single. But, it was announced to me that DWY would be the next (and final) single from TDTH. I received what was described to me as "the only two" copies of these recordings. What I received was two CD-Rs with a combined 3 different versions of the standard studio version of DWY. Overtop of these three versions was Anouk singing vocals. Each of these versions is a slightly reworked version of the duet. In one, Anouk sings the first verse. In another, she sings the second. In the last, the only difference is the final note. These 3 versions are different from the duet version that's been floating around lately.

05. Lightning Crashes (Oklahoma City Mix)

Not unhead of. Live's "Lightning Crashes" became a bit of an anthem to pay homage to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings. For those of you overseas who might not know, in 1995 an American terrorist named Timothy McVeigh set off a series of bombs which killed 168 people (19 of whom were children), for reasons that only an insane motherfucker could possible know. Until 9/11, this was considered the worst terrorist attack on American soil. Anyway, a radio station called KATT 100.5FM released a benefit compilation called "Let the Healing Begin". This CD was the only source of the "Oklahoma City Mix" of Lightning Crashes". It is insultingly rare, to the point where if you were to face-paint a large swastika on your own forehead using a surgical scalpel, then proceed to urinate on the communion table of a prominent Roman Catholic church, and then further follow that up by slaying AT LEAST one human being that does not hold true the ideological and/or cultural standards that you do, the culmination of your actions would be less insulting than the rarity of this CD.

Just download it. You've probably already heard it, but I sure as shit didn't see it listed in the Multimedia section.

06. She Ain't What She Seems

This is a remix of Don't Wait that a fan made when the song first surfaced. Sadly, it's terrible. It doesn't incorporate any new sounds, and it was shoddily cut and pasted together. Still, here it is.

07 - 13. They Stood Up For Love (Ballad Version) source tracks

I apologize if you've all got these already. I couldn't find the individual tracks listed anywhere in the Multimedia section of this message board, so I figured that MAYBE, somehow, these tracks haven't made it to the hands of everyone. These 7 tracks make up a big part of my upload this time around, so I'm sorry if a lot of you were expecting something else. Anyway, a bit of history for those who don't already know:

Several years back (in 2000 or 2001) these tracks were found on a German MTV website as part of a contest to "remix They Stood Up For Love". To everyone's surprise, the song was not the version we were used to on the record. Instead, the lyrics and most of the instruments were quite different. For reasons unknown, the tracks were quickly removed from the website and the contest was cancelled. However, some of us had downloaded the tracks ahead of time. There's a bit of silence at the beginning of some of the tracks, and some of them (keyboards and harmonies especially) are blank for most of the track, so don't think the files are faulty. Just be patient and the music will start smile.gif

On the other hand, my source for these tracks was a CD-R that I'd burned when they were first made available. On the two guitar tracks and the drum track, you will notice about a second or two of skipping. Sadly, there's nothing I can do about this. The CD-R sustained damage.

14. Texas Jerry - Suffering

Texas Jerry is a band from York, PA. In 2002 Patrick Dahlheimer helped produce their record You & i. He also contributed bass to the track Suffering.

15. The Unchoir - Pillar of Davidson

Most, if not all of you have probably heard this before. This is Pillar of Davidson covered by a vocal choir called The Unchoir. It can be found on the b-side to the 1996 Friends of Live Holiday Gift.

16. Tricky - Evolution Revolution Love (Marlon:Maddog Remix)

This remix of Evolution Revolution Love is featured as a bonus track on the Japanese import of Tricky's album Blowback.

17. Tricky - Musical Selections and Commentary (Track 6)

This is a spoken track which appears on the 4 known versions of the Blowback sampler. Basically, it's Tricky discussing parts of the record and Ed Kowalczyk's appearance on Evolution Revolution Love.

Hey swami, out of interest what's your source for the Anouk cover of I Alone? There's a wierd radio outro sound overlapping the very end, an old mp3 version of the track I have has it also shrug.gif
I know she released it officially on her album 'Lost Tracks', surely this isn't that version...

In any case, an amazing cover - you can watch the actual performace of that version here

And for those not familiar with Sarah Bettens, you may recall this awesome song from the mid 90's...
