@thegraciousfew are meeting today with legendary rock n roll hall of fame inductee, Jerry Harrison of Taking Heads/ Modern Lovers fame.

Could it be?! Jerry Harrison producing the debut album of The Gracious Few? It would soooo totally fit the whole thing, as they want to get back to the early Live style.

(just speculation ofcourse, but as they haven't announced a producer yet - Ed did - this could be very interesting)

Just out of curiosity, how old and where from are you guys that had never heard of Candlebox? They broke up for awhile, but their first album was extremely successful in the US around the same time Throwing Copper was. The average 90's rock fan in America is going to remember them.

As far as the "supergroups" not working out comment, that is extremely asinine. Some "supergroups" that didn't work out:

Temple of the Dog
Cream
A Perfect Circle
Traveling Wilburys
Journey
The Postal Service

Not saying I love all these bands, but they are all "supergroups" and all had a very nice round of success.

Born in the 70s and from the UK. I hate to tell you this but Candlebox never made it particularly big even in the USA, let alone much heard of anywhere else. Can you actually claim, (with the exception of Cream) that any of those supergroups made music as good as their original constituent bands or have been anywhere near as popular, long lived or successful? Yes, they may have had plenty exposure and sold quite a few CDs thank you very much, but rivalling their parent bands in the cases of where the parent bands were well established and popular artists? The best Audioslave could come up with was a debut that ripped off Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin rather than anything of the calibre of Killing In The Name Of or, well frankly most of Superunknown. Temple Of The Dog are hardly what you'd call well known (like Mad Season). A Perfect Circle were sonically only ever Tool lite with a revolving scenery of guest artists filling the seats. Velvet Revolver really are no better and Scott Weiland has flown the coop. Journey were made up of the arse end of Santana and [sarcasm] the internationally reknowned hit makers [/sarcasm] Frumious Bandersnatch. You cannot tell me that, pleasing and whimsical as Handle With Care might have been, The Travelling Wilburys collective output was anywhere near as magnificent as any of their constituent artists. And The Postal Service (not that Death Cab For Cutie are my thing either), if you like that kind of fae twittering electro banality haven't done an album for 6 years or a single for 4. Reached the heady heights of #114 in the billboard charts no less. I think that last one depends on your definition of what a nice round of success is. Mind you, if The Gracious Few sell 900,000 albums on their debut, I'll eat the Zeitgeist they managed to channel into.

That guy chose terrible bands for supergroups... What about Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Boston, Electric Light Orchestra and CSNY? I'd also argue that The Gracious Few is far from a Supergroup. People aged 25-40 know who Live is and no one knows who Candlebox is. Some argue with that, but Last.fm is a really good tell for our generation who has name recognition.

Collective Soul 5.4 Million
Live - 8.6 million listens
Bush 9.1 Million
A Perfect Circle - 34.3 Million listens
Guns n' roses 41.2 Million

So... I would never call TGF a supergroup judging by their popularities. Live is about as popular as Bush

It is a side project. Live will get back together again in time, calm down everyone. TGF is the result of Ed being tyrannical when it comes to making music... I'd say when they get back together we will see a lot more influence from the other members instead of just Ed.

"That guy"?? Damn dude I've only been posting here for 2 years.

Anyway, I forgot Emerson Lake and Palmer, and didn't realize the other groups you named are "super groups." Give me a break. The terminology "super group" just refers to a band formed out of members of other bands, it isn't a judgment on how popular the bands are. Of course, you rip my choices and then include Boston in your list... I mean I love Boston but come on you are splitting hairs when you dismiss Journey but bring up Boston.

Candlebox' low number of listens is a result of the band breaking up for nearly 10 years before getting back together very recently. Candlebox isn't popular at all right now, but they were back in 1993/94 hence why the pairing makes sense. I've never argued that people know who Candlebox is now, merely that most mid-90's music fans in the US that know Live will know who Candlebox is.

I do agree with your last paragraph though, this is clearly a side project as it doesn't seem at all that Candlebox plans on stopping.

Sorry, Journey works but I was trying to supplement your list to follow the same point as you. I'm going by the vinyl I have in front of me... it claims "Boston is a new supergroup" so... yeah?
