Is “Take me up to Zion” played at Tin Angel a new song? If so, any feedback from those who listened to it?

I'd say it's an "experimented songwriter" effort. Not good/not bad, just applying the basics.
To me, it lacks of soul.

Well, I disagree. Applying the basics is what fans have been waiting for since TDTH - it seems that the time has come. It is a Live classic ala T.B.D., the cover Supernatural and perhaps Ghost. It is closer to TBD though. It is Live's best since The Dolphin’s Cry and it is better than Purifier.

I was talking about general songwriting basics, not +LiVe+ basics.
Believe me, that kind of melody is really easy to catch while playing some random chords on an acoustic guitar. Nothing impressive here.

You're an idiot, stfu anfd get lost already.

I honestly don't get where you guys find any similarity to TBD at all, but as much as I hate this bands last 10 years of crap, this has some serious potential. I didn't like neither forever nor purifier, although purifier was ok.

But this song has an ingredient that's been missing for a long time, heart. Just like songs such as Gas Hed, simple but fucking genius almost. You could feel the music. This song is on the right track plain and simple, you can feel the music. It reminds me a little of photograph, remember that song? Sure the chord progression was simple, but the song had guts and made you feel something. At least it did me, even the crappy quality recording gives me goosebumps. No falsetto or fake ass bs, just heart and fucking soul.

If you listen to the chord progression that apparently isn't impressive as idiot boy says here, you find it eerily similar to an IMPRESSIVE little rock tune by a band called Guns and Fucking Roses. The song is called Patience. Now listen to the song again.

Doesn't have to be acoustically genius to be good. Songs like Patience and even Lightning Crashes by this very band ae both simple, but meaningful. The have passion and conviction. This song is by a long shot, ten thousand times better than anything since TDTH. Still wouldn't say it's special, but definately a step in the right direction. Hopefully when it gets to the studio, Ed doesn't girl it up like he has with everything over the past ten years. Be a man and put some fucking balls into it.

Not sure where I get the TBD feel, but I do. Agreed about girling it up in the studio. I like Purifier, but it basically is God Don't Never Change but girled up in the studio as you say. If he can keep his voice low and angsty and if they quit doing bullshit like dubbing in other vocals then this could be a great album.

Listen to the stretches right around the chorus, for example at the 43-50 second mark....then tell me this song doesn't remind you of patience?

I'm not saying this song has any potential for anything but this is the best chorus I've heard in a LIVE song for a very long time. And I'm usually one of the first people to hate on songs. But I can't hate this.

When he starts singing "they gonaa run, run from me"......he sets it up fucking perfectly to "far away..from me" It has heart, it sounds like he's singing from deep down. This song reminds me a LOT of photograph and I fucking love that song.

This song, in it's raw form is fifty billion times better than either Purifier or Forever.

Whilst I agree that he does seem to be singing it from deep down (he seems really into it in the video), the chorus is actually the only bit I question. It's because, at face value, it seems lyrically weak. "They'll run, run away, far away, you'll see, they'll run" etc, it's like little ditti lines and I wonder if he'll keep going on with them. But this is where the studio will play such a big part in the making of this song in my opinion. If the production is BoP / SFBM low-key style, it'll be another little catchy tune (albeit slightly deeper than recent stuff), but if they really work with it with (like they put more thought into Purifier), it could have that Rattlesnake / Gas Hed wide open aura type feel to it... and then the chorus and the song as a whole might work on that more epic type scale.

Slightly ramblish explanation, I hope you get my point.

I don't see them as weak at all. But you miss my point entirely here. He's sings this part with conviction and emotion. I don't want it to be produced at all. This recording is fucking perfect, just like photograph was. It's simple but it says something. Then he follows it up with a powerful chorus where he sings "fucking RUUUUUUUUUUUUN"

Producing this song will ruin it entirely. "see them run far away.....(pause)....(emotional) from me. PERFECT. This is the best chorus I've heard in a LIVE tune since I can't remember. I love this and can't stop listening to it. I find the verses need some tweaking but this chorus, with a little more of Live's anthemic style, will be amazing. I get the chills listening to it with my eyes closed. It's raw and it strikes me hard. Especially when he belts out the last chorus.

I am and have not been a fan of any of his recent work at all, but in this raw form, I love this fucking song more than anything I've heard from anyone in a while. That means a lot coming from me because I've been one of their biggest critics. Listen to the way he sings the words leading into each chorus. The "me" in the first one, pure emotion, it sounds sweet almost. The second, can't make it out but it has the same effect and it flows beautifully into the chorus. Then listen to the way he sings "god" leading into the next one, fucking spectacular and utterly gorgeous. I also love the pause when he separates "far awayyyyy.......from meeee."

Wow, the more I listen to this, the more I love it. It reminds me so much of photograph and I love that tune. It spurs emotion in me and makes me think. It's the old Ed leading you into your own interpretation through his own.

Either way, y'all can have your own opinions, I'm simply floored by this tune. I didn't think Ed had anything close to this left in him. I absolutely and utterly adore this song. Thanks Ed.

Didn't mean to miss your point there. I know he sings with great emotion and conviction and that is great, which is what I mean by the production being so important. By production I don't mean I want them to go in there and gloss it over to perfection, just that when the four get together to make the full band version, they have to have a real good think and work real hard to keep this tune from being flat and forgettable like some recent tunes. They have the oppertunity to keep ther raw emotion, but add that anthemic, epic style like you say.

There is no way that the full band version doesn't rock hard, especially in concert.
