Lightning Strikes Twice

Rarely does an album come together with the perfect recipe of passion, magic, and awe as the 1994 chart-topping Throwing Copper from the band, Live. Fifteen years later, Live has done it again, with their 8th studio album, tentatively scheduled for world-wide release in early August, 2009. The new album, The Dark Sea, is pure magic and encaptures the essence of brilliant melodic rock layered with meat & cheese and spiced with that essential juice. Loyal Live fans will eat this up and grin from ear to ear, while casual listeners will have a new addiction on their hands once they hear this album.

The upcoming album was written and recorded on a small island off of Greece in the spring of ’09, where the 4 band members vacationed together and secluded themselves from friends and family for 3 weeks. Singer, songwriter Ed Kowalczyk relays what the experience was like sitting down on the shores of ‘the dark sea’. “The universe seemed to come together full-circle for us, and I remember sitting there with my guitar just shaking like a leaf, bowing to the gods in humility, asking ‘why me God, why give me this supernatural gift of devine creativity’. All four of us were deeply touched by what transpired on those shores, and we all feel unworthy of these songs; at times it was overwhelming and it just seemed too good to be true. We wrote 10 songs together that felt absolutely perfect, and then we decided to round out the album with 3 of our oldies, that we re-recorded and remastered to sound exactly like the original, with a few minor changes in lyrics to each one”.

The 3 re-recorded songs, “Hold me Up”, Susquehanna”, & “Raising a Man” were added because they fit in seamlessly with the other 10 tracks, Kowalczyk explained. “The 3 songs we chose to add matched the vibe of the album, which has a gritty, rustic, old-time feel to it, sprinkled with a glitter of color, edge and modern art.”

Their first official full-length studio album with Vanguard Records, The Dark Sea is a masterpiece not seen by Live since Throwing Copper. Each track has the potential to be a giant hit on alternative rock or adult contemporary radio, with “Skeptic or Magic”, “Flotation”, and “Killer Scent” being the strongest efforts. Vanguards is expecting great things with this album, and has already been pushing the first single, “Hold me Up”, to radio stations across the globe 1 month in advance of its scheduled release. The entire album is so interesting to listen to, and it rocks harder than most rock albums released these days, that a chart-topper is definitely not out of reach.

After 20 plus years of writing and touring across the world, Live hopes to reach as many people as possible with this latest effort. Job well done, Live!

Edit: This article was only meant for entertainment purposes. It's an imaginary article, meant to be that ideal album review we came across before the next album.

It's good to see that just about everybody realizes what an ignorant asshole Hoodstock is. thumbsup.gif

It's also good to see a down to earth guy like Chad take the time to comment on this in his blog, a rather long comment as well. And the man is right. I write quite a bit and have recently submitted a manuscript that took me four years to write. Creativity is each mans own vision and fantasy.

Sometimes it comes to me when I'm laying down, alone and reflecting on how I feel about my children. Sometimes words and ideas flow from just that. They are a huge source of love and inspiration for me and I love them with every ounce of my heart and soul. Sometimes, the ideas flow from wild thoughts that seem not to be coming from within. Meditation allows me at times to step outside of my own thoughts and dig down to a deeper space I never knew existed at one time.

It's the space that allows me to cry freely at the thought of a starving child or a freezing, destitute homeless person. The very space I never dared visit nor confront, for it forced me to let my guard down and face what I've never wanted to face. In that space, I am traumatized, confused and unbelieveably sad. But I've learned that I can be myself when I am there. I can reassure myself of who I am when I am there and I can remind myself that I love who I am.

My disappointment is that I'm not nearly strong enough to keep my guard down. The walls go up and I become something quite different. I've taken some time to explore why it is I do this and in the end, the answer is always the same. Self preservation. The world breaks my heart every single day and it wouldn't even be a day before it broke me. I feel ashamed that with all I have to offer people, I hide it out of fear.

Anyhow, good on you CT for being grounded and taking the time out of your life to write what you wrote. Surprised you'd waste your time reading all the shit that gets spewed around here.
