Well the popularity of this band is quite similar to that of Live. Namely, two shops have a couple of CDs and hardly a shop assistant knows what you are talking about.

Anyway, I bet this band deserves a thread.

Themusic of theirs has a huge impact on me lately. As of yet, I still only have their latest work and I am pretty scared to gt the rest. It can either grow on me completely and I will give up all the rest or I can get disappointed, which I do not want.

The album I possess (and spin as crazy lately) is quite a standeard CD. Standard in a strange way. On the one hand, the instruments are not played with mad professionalism, on the other hand, the melodies are catchy as fuck and for sure the singalong choruses make up for what is not that huge in their music.

They can easily have a college-rock song like Hollywood with those throw-up wordies like BABE, SUN, CALIFORNIA etc, but on the other hand there is one song that got at me from the very first listen.

Adored.

Feels like Ed with all his goofiness sat down and poured all that he ever felt into one 3-minute tune. Which for me has rapidly become one of the best ever.

I wonder why Luke has not created a thread on them here yet.

And I wanna know what you people think about the band.

Cheers

Collective Soul is my #3 band right behind LIVE and Black Lab. I was always a casual fan and knew and liked their hits. Then back in 2005, they played a show at the Abercrombie home office in New Albany, OH. I didn't have anything going on and I figured it would be worth it to check out a live show, so I went. Fell in love with the band because they put on an excellent show.

Before that, like I said, I only knew their singles, though I did have a copy of Youth that I picked up on a whim back when it came out and I did enjoy it. I now own everything they've released.

Definitely check out their older material. As Badman said, their self-titled album is like their Throwing Copper and there really isn't a bad song on it. My personal favorite, though, is Dosage. There's maybe a subpar song or two on the album, but as a whole it's pretty amazing.

You said you enjoy Afterwords, though, and I think that it's their best album since Dosage.

So yeah, pick up some of their other CD's (or download them, I know they're fairly easy to find). If you can't see them live in concert, definitely pick up their DVD. It's very well produced and every song sounds great with the symphony backing them.
