maybe its just me, but i thought they show was blah. probably cause they only played for 90 minutes, but i was hoping for more surprises, a crowd that was more into it. i guess when you are co-headlining there is only so much you can do, but out of the 7 shows i've seen them in, i think i came away most unsatisfied from this one.

So, too, is Live, whose live show is just as energetic as it was in 1991, when they were toiling their way through the now-defunct New York City club circuit and becoming a staple at CBGB's. Their set list ran the gamut from the old ("All Over You," the sing-along anthem from their best-known, best-selling album Throwing Copper) to the semi-new ("Wings," the Europe-only release from Songs from Black Mountain). Lead singer Ed Kowalczyk is a boundless bundle of energy who treats every song - regardless of tempo, message, or creed - like it's a rain dance, a resurrection ritual, and a house party all in one, and his energy is contagious and electrifying. The whole place erupted with sonic lava during the show's closer, "Lightning Crashes," and even their cover of Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line" - itself the focal point of controversy during schlock-rocker Chris Daughtry's inexplicable reign on American Idol - was almost better than the original.

As a rock writer, photographer, and music critic, I'm often sent to shows on a mission to make pithy remarks about a band's live prowess (or lack thereof). Sometimes, too, the job is just that - a job - especially when I have to suffer through the Demi Lovatos and/or the Miley Cyrus' of the music world. Thanks to the sad state of the rock music world, it's often hard to find something nice to say (so I end up not saying anything at all). The Live/Collective Soul show was not only a rockin' experience, but a good time...
and that, in the end, is the point of rock'n'roll music.
