The tickets said 5:30. No mention if that was door or the first band. Apparently it was neither, we arrived around 4:30, got hassled by security for having a point and shoot camera. So we had to walk back to the car to put it away. By the time we got back to the venue, Hana Pestle was already on stage. She put on another good set to a nearly empty venue, which is too bad I think she has some real talent and could go places. She covered Creep, apparently it is the cover de jour for singer/songwriters, I think I have heard 3 different singer/songwriters cover it this year.

The crowd seemed to be be pretty confused about the lineup for the evening, the guy next to us swore that Collective Soul's setup "looks like Live's equipment", the group behind up thought that Blues Traveler's setup was Live's (When did Live add an organ?) and I overheard some folks near merch that were trying to figure out who Live was omg.gif I'm not sure if people are clueless or if the radiostation/promoter did a poor job of advertising.

Collective Soul was up next, they played for about an hour, a solid set. Ed R. pants are WAY too tight, it's not natural. This is the third or forth time I have seen these guys opening for Live and they are starting to grow on me.

Blues Traveler came on around 7. I really enjoy their CDs and enjoyed the first half of their set, before they started jamming. At some point during their set, John and the guitarist took a 2 cigarette smoke break DURING a song, while the bassist, organist and drummer jammed. That's not my idea of entertainment. But John plays an amazing harmonica.

Live took the stage to Simple Creed! Great to hear it again. Similar setlist to Red Rocks, Ed sounded great, but didn't talk too much, other than his "canned" crowd interaction bits. Chad was on fire again. The boys are really hitting their stride, the rest of the tour should be great (especially once they are over their Europe>Denver>Hawaii>Seattle jet lag). They rocked Iris, probably my favorite song in concert. If you get to see them in an indoor venue on this tour it should be a good light show, but it doesn't get dark in Seattle until almost 10 so the light show is a bit of a wasted effort. The crowd was totally into the set, singing along, crowd surfing, etc. The front area between the seats and the barricade was jammed with people, security kept letting people come up front even though it was reserved seating.

We were lucky enough to get backstage and chat with the guys a little. Everyone was in a good mood, Ed was actually mingling around, but didn't say too much. Chad G confirmed the Oct/Nov release date of the DVD with "a few new songs" but no plans for other new material, Chad T asked how they sounded, I told him that Ed's vocals were off during SC (sound guys fault, not Ed's), and he told us that they no longer do sound checks, but he told us a story about him playing guitar with Verbow for 10 dates or so and how it was totally different, hauling your own gear, no catering, no buy out, etc. Gordon "Gungi" Paterson was back stage chatting with all the guys, he looked good and seemed like a really cool guy.

We stuck around up front to try to get a setlist or something. We ended up getting 2, one from a nice couple that were given a stack of setlists that were taped together and another from one of the stage hands. The one from the stage hands matches the set they played, however, the setlist the other couple got was a little different:

SC
W
AOY
Love Shines
MS
TDC
WTL
PoD
TSUFL
Iris
Wings
IA
Heaven

Encore:
Sophia
LJ
BoG/STD/ST (These are all listed on the same line on the setlist)
LC

Is this discarded setlist, from that night or maybe from the Paradiso shows? What is meant by "BoG/STD/ST" on the same line? Could this be future headlining setlists for this tour. Very interesting...

Well this is the end of my summer of Live hi.gif, but plenty of other tickets on the refrigerator though!!! rockin.gif

later,
Brian

Brian your reviews are always awesome! Thanks for that. How long do you estimate that Live played for?

Live played for about 75 minutes, CS and BT for probably an hour.
