They're not "tightening their belts" anymore than they have been for years. Whether or not we're in, or will ever be in, an official recession, our economy is skating on thin ice and has been for years and years. Although the wheels were set in motion decades ago, it was in the early 2000s that the economy took a nosedive and it was then that entertainment took a hit. However, since then, it's held relatively steady.

If you want to take a look at how gas prices affect ticket sales, look at the average gas price about a month before the shows occurred, when most people buy tickets. In February, the average US price was $3.15 per gallon and in April it was $3.30 per gallon. That's a whopping 5% increase and is likely to cost the average concert goer only a few extra dollars per show. It's not keeping anyone home if they were willing to go out a few months ago.

However, if they've seen Live play the same show twice in six months, maybe that will impact their desire to see it a third time? The fact of the matter is that there are very few fans like you, Nick, who were attracted to the band by the recent albums. The vast, vast majority of fans at shows are going to see them play Throwing Copper's hits. These normal people can stand only so many "la da da das."

The average gas price right now is nearly 4 dollars a gallon and climbing. Way up from the 3.3 in April.

Did most people buy their tickets for the early May shows right now? If so, good call and let me know where to find the time machine! banana.gif
