So many people are starting to notice it was not LIVE's version, from About.com's news section:

and from USA Today:

Like I said, how could anyone be surprised that the judges drop the ball on something. I don't watch the show for their critique, but to study vocalists from a vocal ped. aspect. Believe it or not, there are some very good singers on the show. Kathleen has been very well trained, though I don't know that her classical training is going to sit well with the average audience. Kelly Clarkson was once the same type of singer, and the pop world has destroyed her voice to the point that I would not be surprised to see her develop vocal nodes (a la Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani). Even though he's lord of the dorks, and the writing they do for him is horrendous, Clay is a phenomenal vocal technician.

Anyway, I was in no way saying that I expected American Idol to be the place to go for objectively accurate music critique. I was simply asking that people keep these things in mind when showing surprise over the recent, and probably ridiculous, "scandal."
