I agree with you wholeheartedly about American citizens' ignorance and arrogance, but I also don't agree that it's entirely their fault and that they are the ones who need to initiate change.

The American government is so far reaching it is almost hilarious. Our media is almost completely monopolized and manipulated to send the government's message, our elections are often rigged and have been for decades, our personal freedoms have been violated to the nth degree, our economy is at the mercy of the fed and their interest rates, and the list goes on and on. So, when we have someone like Bush in the White House, it's very easy to get the masses believing in his foolish, arrogant ways, because that's all we ever see or hear.

This kind of power can be used for good, too. Bill Clinton had everyone fooled in the 90s when he put together the hedonic deflator concept. The hedonic deflator was based on the idea that computer sales not only benefited the seller of the computer, but also the buyer of the computer for the same amount of the selling price. So, if I buy a computer from Dell for $2,000, not only does that help Dell by $2,000, but it also helps me by $2,000 because now I am more productive. Bullshit, right? Well, if you apply that principle millions of times over like they did in the 90s with computers, the GDP is artificially inflated and everyone thinks the economy is great. So basically, the 90s economic "boom" was based on sheer bullshit and changing the rules on how the GDP is calculated without many people knowing.

All of this I use to illustrate my point and that is that you can't blame this all on the American people. Whether the influences are bad or good, it is obvious that the government can majorly influence how citizens think and act and the only way the country will change is if the next person to win a rigged election happens to use his or her power for good. That's pretty much why I like Hillary, because since Bill did good things with his manipulating, I bet she will too.

But hey, stop hating on me for mocking Frenchy trying to speak a little American. banana.gif

Very well put.

With what Bush has done to the economy, it needs some more manipulating. A hollow yet inflated GDP still means more money in the pocket of people who invest their money well. It also stops the potential disastrous domino effect of an exaggerated expectation of recession. Once investors get scared and feel the cat has been let out of the bag, not only is the U.S economy screwed, world markets tumble as a result. Inflated artificially or not, manipulation is needed to keep the ball rolling.

La raison pour laquelle j'essaie de te parler en anglais (THE ONLY REASON IM TALKING TO YOU IN ENGLISH HERE, AND GOD KNOWS I DO MY BEST, IT'S BECAUSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND A DAM WORD NOT FROM YOUR COUNTRY!) c'est que tu comprend rien sinon.

Anyway, ce qu'il faut que tu comprenne ce que en gros, les américains vous êtes vraiment trop con, tellement pas ouvert sur le monde, tellement centré sur vous même...

So let's finish with this: In Quebec, my country, we don''t gives a shit about how strong is our army, our bombs, our nuclear firepower. We care about peoples, peace, cooperation. We find cure, not virus, we find way to make peace (Romeo Dallaire), not war, we find ways to change for a better world: are you?
