Found this on the Collective Soul board:

I saw CS at the Roxy on the Hollywood strip just after the release of Youth. And at that quaint little club of 200 or so, the crowd was intimate with CS and the show (naturally) rocked.

Fast forward to last night...

Nightmare! As has been previously posted many times, the sound REALLY sucked. Ed was barely audible and Joel was knifing through everything within 5 miles. I don't know who made the decision on that mix, all I can say is it SUCKED big time.

The show seemed to be forced, it was like they were at work rather than having a good time playing a gig. I know this because i saw them when they were awesome.

Ed actually apologized and advised early on that they were doing a REALLY short set....and it most certainly was.... about 45 minutes I believe. They played their greatest hits, along with Hollywood (Dirty Deeds riff included). Remember, I'm a CS fan, so of course I enjoyed the music and the show, I was just disappointed that it wasn't one of their better nights.

Contrary to what I've been reading, Live was most definately the main event. People were COMING not going as Live was getting ready to take the stage. And they kicked ass. Their sound was very good, the lead guitar may have needed a boost, but other than that they sounded great. The vocals were top notch...Ed K definately has some pipes...and the backing vocals and harmonies were awesome. The stage show was pretty good, nothing ground breaking, but they were fun to watch. They played the crowd well too. Much to my surprise I really liked "I walk the line" - it was fun. My favorite song of the entire night was Dolphin's Cry - they ROCKED it. I was hoping I might get lucky and see a different show where Ed doesn't take off his shirt, but I didn't - and I really didn't need to see that. A 40 year old voice in a 13 year old body just doesn't work for me.

All in all, it was a good night. The people I was with really enjoyed both bands. I did too. I guess I just know what CS is like at the top of their game and was disappointed they didn't bring it. If I was gonna rate the 3 most recent performances I witnessed, it would go like this: the Roxy, the Home DVD , Last night.

Collective Soul is one of my favorite bands and the show at the Roxy is still one of my favorite shows, however, last night they took second prize.

All I have say is Hell Yes!!!! Live rocked the house. The band played great as always. Ed was looking like he has been pumping some iron. The only thing that I could say that would have made the show a little better would be if the fans would have had a little more freedom to move about, everyone had seats and you could not get up close, but let me say this I love the band and there was no way i was going to be sitting down! I always look forward to a Live show and wiil be forever a fan and friend of Live
Thank You
