8/2/07 - LIVE to perform at Union County Musicfest in NJ

CRANFORD, NJ---Live, one of the most enduring alternative rock bands of the past two decades, will headline Union County Musicfest ‘07---a free annual outdoor concert and family event---to be held on Saturday, September 15th at Nomahegan Park in Cranford.

Live, a York, Pa band that has sold more than 20 million CDs worldwide and is known for soaring anthems such as “Lightning Crashes,” and “Selling the Drama,” is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. on the main stage.

MusicFest ’07 will also feature concerts on the main stage by Roselle Park’s Beale Street Love (10:30 a.m.), the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and pioneer, Chuck Berry (12:30 p.m.), the Smithereens (A new Jersey based band featuring Pat DiNizio of Scotch Plains, known for hits like “Blood and Roses” “Only a Memory” 2:30 p.m.), and Fountains of Wayne (a pop band with New Jersey roots, known for their smash hits “Stacey’s Mom” and “Radiation Vibe” at 4:30 p.m.). Live is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. All times are subject to change without notice.

A second stage, the LoveHopeStrength stage will feature performances by the English Beat (influential Ska rockers, 11:30 a.m.); the Old Ceremony (Chapel Hill, NC-based indie band, 1:30 p.m.); The Apples in Stereo (known for their Beatles-style pop, 3:30 p.m.); and The Alarm (Welsh rock band, known for hits such as “68 Guns.” “Sold me down the River,” “The Stand,” 6 p.m.). All times are subject to change without notice.

Trout Fishing in America, an acclaimed three-time grammy-nominated family act, will headline the Children’s Stage at 10:30 a.m.

For more information on all the acts performing, schedules, directions and more, please go to www.ucmusicfest.com, or call 908-436-2900. Those planning on attending should note there will be shuttle van service beginning at noon on September 15th from the NJ Transit station in downtown Cranford (Raritan Valley line). Residents of communities along that route including Union, Roselle Park, Garwood, Westfield, Fanwood, Plainfield and further out west are encouraged to board NJ Transit to come to MusicFest.

"MusicFest is our marquee concert of the year and a day for everyone to come out and enjoy some family fun and great rock and roll music," said Union County Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski.

MusicFest is New Jersey’s fastest growing musical and family fun festival, and this year features two adult concert stages and a children’s stage, additional vendors and exhibits including Major League Baseball. Kids Kingdom, a traveling entertainment show featuring rides and amusements for children, is also featured. Food and refreshments will be available to purchase.

Also on that morning beginning at 8 a.m., the County of Union is partnering with two charitable organizations, the Love Hope Strength Foundation (www.lovehopestrength.com) and the New Jersey Citizens Coalitions for Cures to hold the Rock On! Walkathon to raise funds and awareness in the battle against cancer. All are encouraged to join and participate in this event, which concludes in Nomahegan Park at 10 a.m. A form is available online at www.ucmusicfest.com

In the event of rain, MusicFest will be moved to Kean university in Union on that day, but the Walkathon will go on as planned in Cranford.

You think they will really play those songs in Cranford? I read an article online that said the bands will play up until 10pm. Live goes on @ 8pm? It would be sweet if they played 2 hours!!! But I'm thinking "free concert" , no they won't.

Ed said that they were planning on adding new songs to the setlist in Florida, so why not NJ? Maybe Live will go on at 8:15 and play until 10? When has the band ever hit the stage on time?

I'm very excited for the concert, I just hope they play new songs.

Can you post a link to the article where he said they would play new songs?

Ed and the boys sounded awesome, crowd was ok, not a whole lot of Live fans but at least they were mellow except for this one guy in back of me who was loud and obnoxious. Highlights for me were The Beauty of Gray, Waitress and Mother Earth is a Vicious Crowd.
Went over to the trailer after the show and gave my daughter the biggest thrill of her life, got to talk to everyone and took a picture with the band and the two of us. They were really nice. Also have some great shots of the show, I'll send
Once again they never disappoint me!

I agree, the band looked like they were having a ball. This show seemed like a warm-up for the main tour that begins next week. I wonder if they canceled Sunday in order to rehearse new songs for next week. Beautiful Invisible and Radiant Sea are excellent and I hope they make it onto the setlist too.

Setlist as best I can(out of order in spots I'm sure):

Rattlesnake
Selling the Drama
The River- Best version of the song I've ever heard
Waitress- Ed seemed lost on the words but the boys rocked it out at the end
The Dolphin's Cry
Sofia
I Walk the Line
Run to the Water
Beauty of Gray
Wings
Heaven
I Alone

Encore
Mother Earth is a Vicious Crowd- very well done!
Lightning Crashes
White Discussion- Best version I've heard
Dance With You

No All Over You, Lakini's Juice, or They Stood Up for Love

Excellent show overall. Crowd was really into it by the end.

As much as I would like to see Live rehearse new songs to play, canceling a show in order to schedule a practice session is a pretty crappy reason to do so. I seriously doubt that's why the Richmond show was canceled at the last minute...
