Simple Question: Which album or album period got you initially hooked on this band? music.gif Since this is a fan site I thought it would be interesting to see where or when people found their interest in Live.

My answer for me is simple: Throwing Copper. I saw Live playing Selling the Drama on MTV's broadcast of Woodstock and I've been hooked ever since! I love different things about each of the albums but that's where it started for me.

I remember watching MTV and seeing the video for Lightning Crashes come on. I absolutely hated it because I thought it was boring. I'd turn the channel every time it would start to come on. Months later a friend of mine let me borrow his copy of Throwing Copper and I couldn't stop listening to the album. Lightning Crashes became one of my favorite songs off the album. Then... weeks later I was watching MTV and the video for the song came on again. I was like "God, not this crap again..." I was about to turn the channel, but then I heard the music start up to the song and it stopped me in my tracks. I was like "what the fuh..."? First time I ever learned not to judge a book by its cover...

It's funny, though. My fan-based relationship with the band has always been like that. When Lakini's Juice first came out on the radio I was floored. I got so pumped waiting for the album to come out. Then, when it finally came out, I went and got it and grazed over the first three or four songs off the album (minus Lakini's Juice) and I remember getting so pissed at the band. In my mind, at the time, the rest of the album sounded like crap compared to Lakini's Juice. I felt hoodwinked. But I finally warmed up to the sound of the album and, in doing so, found subtle pleasures sprinkled throughout all of the songs.

Predictably enough, the same thing happened with The Distance To Here. It's happened with every album, with the exception of SFBM (no matter how hard I try, I just can't warm up to that album sad.gif ).

Well, I'm just trying to look on the bright side. Maybe SFBM is Live's Zooropa. Of course, then there's Pop. Maybe V can be Live's Pop so we can say they've already gotten that out of their system.
