First off, I'm not trying to stir anything up here. However, I would be lieing if I didn't admit that I have been embarrassed by the band on more than one occasion -- and I assume that others have been, too, based on some of the comments on this board over the past few years. To be honest, Live has done some things that I would ridicule any other band for doing, so it's time to call them out for it.

So here it is...a poll to determine Live's weakest moment thus far. I tried to come up with the 5 that I have seen criticized most often here, although I don't necessarily agree with all of them.

Have fun!

I'm not going to Vote because what I would pick is not on there.

The Shelby Lynn duet-Not really embarrassing but at the same time-it sucked. what was the point? Edismyhero you seriously think that the Shelby Lynn version is better than the one on BOP? If that is true than I'm not sure what to think of yah, guess ya just like softer Live or something.

Anywho I love 5 and SFBM is a little weak but yet still better than almost anything on the radio. Plus the SFBM songs are great live.

American Idol-this made me seriously question whether the band had sold out or not. angry.gif

Oh my God Nickelback sucks balls! they have the most mindless meaningless unintelligent lyrics, they have nothing to say, they only glam shit up for record sales. I went to see Chevelle last year and they were openers for Nickelback. After Chevelle was done playing I just straight up left, I wasnt' gonna sit and watch a lame ass band play jerk music after just seeing Chevelle rock the stage. Its kinda funny I gave serious thought to just sticking around and waiting for Nickelback to play so I could give the finger to the lead singer, you know kinda show him what I personally thought of his band. but it wasnt worth it anyways, so I just left. I guess I'm kinda used to seeing my favorite bands open for shittier ones. The best is RARELY the most popular.

What I'm most dissapointed in Live in is for not speaking out more on the state of the world. I know its great to be happy with your own life and I'm happy for Ed, but all the problems with the world outside yours don't just go away. They need to speak out more. I searched the bands website and there was not one activism link or informational link. Just other fansite links. sometimes I wonder if they are afraid to speak out more. What are we fighting for? was great but since that song came out they havent really said a thing. Politics aside-I would say "Home" is a pathetic attempt at an anti war song thats really trying not to piss anyone off. They need to let loose. I know that its not Live's responsibility to speak out, they are rock stars, entertainers if you will. But when you are famous like rock stars are, your voice is louder than the rest, you have to take advantage of that. Try to make a difference.

All of this is of course just my humble opinion so do whit it whatever you will whistle.gif

I have never been impressed by pontificating little cocks such as the likes of Bono and Chris Martin droning on about politics, environmentalism and usually fucking PETA. I'd say if you have to rely on musicians and actors to confirm or form your world view, we're fucked. Also there are many bands who's music I like and message I don't necessarily agree with. Maybe Ed has the common sense to realize that life isn't black and white, most issues are not as clear cut as the media will have you believe and that Live's audience are old and wise enough to do their own research into the geopolitical world and environmental issues.

I actually have more respect for Live for not trying to ram some agenda down my throat along with the music.

My first post, and it's in the embarrassment thread!

I must be a huge geek because I don't consider any of the choices as embarrassing for the band. I think the Shelby Lynn duet is pretty, not as good as the original, but pretty nonetheless.

I'm a fan of V, so can't vote for that.

I'm not as big a fan of SFBM, but hey, I couldn't have written it. Not the lyrics, not the music. I'm not even as talented as SFBM, so who am I to judge? If this is what they want to sing, more power to them. I won't buy it or listen to it (except once, of course, and that was enough), but I'm sure they could give a shit. And hey, they should be proud of "Night of Nights."

They opened for Nickelback, huh? Well, I've liked a couple of their songs, actually. That one that goes "I like your pants around your knees"? Pretty good song! Their first hit, "Are We Having Fun Yet" was catchy too, in my opinion. No it's not art. Not even close. And I think THEY should be opening for LIVE instead of the other way around, but who knows what record labels make their property do? And I think Nickelback's most recent video is better than 98% of the ones that Live has put out. Not that this has anything to do with the music.

Doing that favor for Chris Daughtry was very sweet, in my opinion. And those kids on American Idol are impressive. They learn a new song every week, and have to sing them live, and many of them do it flawlessly. Every week. I'm not a fan of the show, but damn. They have more talent than I do, even the ones who "can't sing." The record business is such a scam, I don't blame them for trying to get ahead any way they can. Since when did talent shows become something to deride?

Hmm. I kind of disagree here. Ed seems to want it both ways. He'll sing "let's vote for Nader"; he'll sing "peace is now" and "the world is not my problem; I am the world," and "don't go to Starbucks," and "Mr. President I pardon you your sins for they are just as much mine" (paraphrase), but then we fucking go to war and he's silent? He sings against fundamentalism, blindly following shallow creeds, ignorance. He tells us over and over and over and over that God is Love and to love our neighbors; he walked around Ground Zero and lets himself be filmed doing it; he allowed his song "Overcome" to be usurped in the aftermath of 9/11 and even attempted to change the history of the song. And, finally, in a stunningly undignified and careless moment, he freaking wrapped himself in the American flag.

Ed has always been political, maybe not as loudly as, say, Tom Morello or Serj Tankian, but he's always been open about his politics and his beliefs. And when the country is in its worst turmoil, in its worst time in history in regards to violence and civil rights, Ed's chosen to be silent. And the ONE song he sings about it is very gentle and he even filmed an apology for it so as not to insult anyone. I'm as surprised as dabutcher. I'm sure Ed has his reasons, but it surprises and disappoints me.

Finally, I don't mind when celebrities talk about politics or religion if it's important to them. Why shouldn't they? It's better than selling zit cream.

Peace,
Trathena
