Thanks to Livefornorway for this poll! I voted Mystery because Ed seems happiest to me when he sings it. Not sure if thats a good reason but still smile.gif

I agree with Eamon in this one. If an artist is really having fun or supporting the song he's playing the audience will go along in that energy. Especially with a new album most bands play the songs they love most themselves of the album, or the ones with the most hitpotential. Either way the audience will benefit from hearig new songs. Worst case scenario is that one of em thinks...hell yeah.. great song.. I am gonna buy that whole album!!! In which case the band (hopefully) gains a new fan.

And if a setlists includes 7 hits from a band... and the rest is addition... I like those. Fun way to learn new songs by bands. And the audience can sing along the hits. Everyone happy.

In my experience I don't think that is usually the case. If the band went out there and played mostly new stuff that the majority of the crowd doesn't even know, the show would be dead and most of the people in the crowd would be bored. Most people that go to shows want to hear the hits because those are the songs that they know. I don't agree with that way of thinking at all. When I go to a show I want to hear everything that a band has to offer, old and new. I love being exposed to different songs that I may not have heard before. I think the reason Live keeps all of the hits in their set is because they know that they will get a reaction with those songs and it will keep the show exciting. But you would think that if they are so proud of their new stuff they would want to play it because they must think it's so good that everyone there would love it. It does pose an interesting question. At this point Live has to keep playing their hits because that is the habit they have gotten into and that is what most fans expect now. They missed their chance to build a strong and loyal following of rabid fans by mixing up their setlists and playing shows for their real fans instead of their casual ones. Oh well as long as their making a living I guess it's ok.

But the band has been mixing up their setlists as of late. You can no longer predict each song that is coming next throughout the show. They have also expanded their shows to over 2 hours in length. Mixing in classic songs with the hits has given Live some of their strongest shows to date in my opinion. They needs their hits to get their other songs heard by the audience.
