Alright, I was just stating what my position is on the movie and song, and it happens to be negative. What responses did the starter of this topic expect when posting it? "Hey, that's such an awesome movie!!! And it was THAT much better because Deep Enough was played in it..." I'm not too sure myself. So I'm not seeing which line I'm crossing here.

I don't think you understood my point.

If you think I'm criticizing the fact that you have a negative opinion of the song, you're dead wrong. This would be an incredibly boring message board if everyone loved everything Live has ever done, and everyone had a positive opinion of any topic that were to be posted.

I CERTAINLY DO NOT agree with the "if you don't have something positive to say, shut up" sentiment. That's being incredibly closed-minded. Not everyone is going to agree with your ideas and opinions, and there is as much constructive value in having a negative opinion of something as there is in having a positive one.

My problem is not with your negative opinion, but with the fact that the way you expressed this opinion was incredibly condescending and rude to the original poster. He came in here obviously excited about something Live-related that he noticed, and wanted to share it with some fellow fans of the band. Unfortunately, he was met with:

Old news.

Shitty movie, and a shitty song.

"Old news" gives off a vibe of condescension, as if you are talking down to him because you knew something he did not.

The other part of the quote takes on a tone of almightiness, as if you are telling him an undisputed fact that he is stupid for not knowing beforehand. There is nothing about why you dislike the movie or song, just a simple statement meant to be taken as fact.

Clearly there's nothing wrong with disliking something that someone else clearly values, but it is polite to at least express your disapproval in a respectful, constructive way.
