in 1994 i heard a song and the radio that, in my mind, was one of the catchiest songs with a great back beat that i'd ever heard. my friend told me one night... "the name of that song is "selling the drama" but i don't know by who".... well, that's where it started and this is where it ends.

i've been a huge Live fan for about 12 years now, and i can't hide my feelings about this band any longer. and here's why: I am a Christian. if you are not a Christian then this band and their lyrics may not bother you, but if you are a Christian, then i don't see how they couldn't bother you. i've made excuse after excuse for Live, so that i could bring myself not to think about excatly what Ed is singing about and just enjoy the music. well, 12 years later... i can't do it any longer. i read some peoples thoughts on songs of Live's and i think a lot of people think they are singing about love between a man and a woman,..... and that is NOT what he's doin'.

i can not sit back and let some guy that cusses, drinks and i'm sure he's been drunk, and puff on doobie backstage, and anything else that is not "good"... talk about Jesus the way he does in his songs. esp. Selling the Drama, Operation Spirit, I alone, and i'm sure a bunch more cause that's all he sings about.

if anyone can tell my why i'm looking into his songs the wrong way.... please enlighten me, but if you can't, and i doubt you will...... i'm done w/ Live. and if there are any true Christians reading this... i hope you do the same.

so, before Live can be done with me.... i'm done with them.

hey, i'm not trying to piss people off. i'd really like to sit down w/ ed and talk about what he's talking about in his songs. cause i could be wrong, but i doubt it. and no one seems to care enough to discuss the matter. just give me the finger and go. and if that's where you stand.... so be it.

The first thing I thought was: oh no, not such a thread again! cry.gif
But this one is different.eh.gif

I've been listening to Live over the past 5 and a half years, and I have figured out that Ed is not against God or whatever what religions at all!
He keeps an open mind for all religions.

He even advices his daughters to think of Jesus (In "Love shines")!
And you don't advice your children to think of Jesus if you don't believe in him, do you?
And in the interview on the dvd of SFBM Ed tells very openly about his believe.
He believes in God, but he has found his own way in it.

You know what I think?
I think that Ed wants to warn us.
Sadly there are people in this world that do as if they believe in God or Allah, to make people following them.
And there are people in this world who are prepared to follow anyone who mentions God or Allah.
Because they think: Hey, I hear that person say "God", or I hear that person say "Allah", that person believes and so that person must be okay! Let's follow that person!
What these people don't (want to) know is that that person who mentions God or Allah, actually wants to get the power, or a whole lot of money or both power and money.
And that is what Ed is warning us for in for example "Selling the drama" and "People like you".
("The world needs people like you" is meant cinical, please listen how Ed sings it).
I think he is not against believing, he is against fake-believers who don't hesitate to abuse God or Allah for their own sake and who don't mind to victimise a lot of people for their own power.
Religion is a good working resort.

Remember that Ed doesn't want to do us harm, he just would like us to be more aware.
He wants to tell us about the mystery of God and all there is.
But he also wants to tell us about the danger of believing everything other people say about God.

But what about "Operation Spirit" you may ask.
Well keep in mind that Ed was 20 year old at that time, and most 20 year old people are rejecting a lot of the things older people say, because they want to search and find out by themselves how they think about life, the world and how it all came to existence.

GvB.

aLIVEinNORWAY: sorry, I mean the dvd side of the disk of SFBM.

I don't know if they brought out this in Norway too, but in The Netherlands they also brought out Songs From Black Mountain as a so-called DualDisk.
You have one disk, but one side is the audio-cd, which contains the whole album and the other side is the dvd-side.
The dvd side contains an interview with Live (far out the biggest part is an interview with just Ed) and acoustic versions of "The River", "Mystery", "Love Shines" and "Get Ready", performed by Ed.
Further it contains the making of "The River"- clip and "The River"-clip itself, with all Live members.

I hope you can buy this in Norway, because it can't be copied, there is a safety-something on it.
And it's in my opinion really worth it to have and watch it.
(If you are really interested in what Ed wants to tell about life, humanity, spirituality and nature and if you love acoustic music).

But if you want it and are really unable to receive it another way, I'll try to find a way to copy it for you.
But I'm afraid I can't promise you.

GvB.
