Why the fuck are you all making such a big goddamn deal about this? Oh no, someone mentioned columbine! Oh no, someone said the words "school shooting"! Until it actually happens, stfu. This is fucking nothing. Try going to a school where violence is a regular fucking thing, then you'll have some right to complain. Right now it just sounds like you're being all freaked out about fucking nothing. If this is the worst thing going on at your school then you should be thankful and stop bitching.

Adults are sometimes (or often) unable to see what really happens to children, teenagers and younger adults.
We (I'm feeling that I'm on my way to become a real adult so I say this to myself too) become somewhere in our lives unable to see where children, teenagers and younger adults have to struggle with.
Why?
Growing up is something very painful, and ones you think that you have grown up you want to leave the pain behind and forget it.
We just don't want to remember it.
But that's in fact not fair to people younger than us, with our memories and with our understanding of it we can maybe help young people.
But at least we, adults, (or people who see themselves as adults) should take the responsability to keep in touch with the younger people.

But we refuse to be confronted with the younger versions of ourselves because it hurts sometimes.
So we deny the young and small part of ourselves, blame the young people for making trouble, the young people get frustrated (of course!) and everything gets worse and worse.

The young people rapping and referring to Columbine are actually begging:
Help us!!!!!!!!!!
We have a hard time in our lifes!!!!!!!!!!
If nobody helps us then it will get out of hand!!!!!!!!!!
And then we have to deal with a new tragedy, which is the same as Columbine.
I hope that an adult who knows this teenagers sees this video and really listens to the rap and takes this seriously.
And that this adult is prepared and smart and patient enough to help this teenagers.
And that he or she is going to do that.

Because: when the shooting happens, you are far too late.
That's all I can say.

By the way: sorry for treating you wrong all the time.
You confronted me with the "younger me", and that was hard for me.
That made that I was trying too hard to help you, I don't want nobody to suffer like I did or even worse, but I did not see what was going on with you.
But I'm prepared to learn.

I hope that Live comes up with a song (or has already a song for you which you maybe already know), which can help you, and that you can listen to it and that it helps you to heal your wounds.

Good luck!
Love from this "old woman" GvB.

Well, good question.
I'll try to answer, I hope that it isn't too wack for you.

You know, there are people here who remind me of how I felt and even was before.
I used to be angry and depressed inside, because of what I was going through and what I saw when I watched tv and that caught almost out of hand and nobody saw it because I kept my mouth shut.
Talking did not make sense I thought, because nobody took me serious and the people taking me seriously where unable to help me.
When I read this board it is as if I read the way I used to be.
And the way I used to be inside was dangerous.

That I was in a fucked up state made that I was listening to the album Nevermind by Nirvana all the time (I was 15 at that time).
If I listened to the songs I felt understood by Nirvana, but these songs didn't really help me.
I quit listening to Nirvana when I discovered that it was better to listen for me to listen to songs with a little hope in it.
It was in fact one of the best choices I ever made.
Soon after that the singer of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain committed suicide....

What does this have to do with Live?
Well, if I listen to their older albums, a little when I listen to MJ or TC but very much when I listen to SS, I feel as if I actually listen to Nirvana.
It is to me as if it has the same atmosphere as Nevermind by Nirvana.
It doesn't give hope.
Listening to this albums make me very sad.
But I thank God that Ed came through his difficult time and Live makes other music now.

I started to listen to Live when I was 24 (rather late then never).
It was (sorry Americans) just after 9/11 and I was almost going to be fucked up again, not only because of 9/11 but all other bad things in the world and in my life!
(This fucking world! You know?)
But when other people where looking around and looking for the ones to blame (here in Holland there where people blaming all Muslems), I wondered what it had caused and how to prefend such a things in the future!
Blaming a whole group is making people getting in a fucked up state and if they have weapons then they are on their way to do wrong things, how often do you hear people say about a murderer: Yes, he had a gun, but we didn't expect that he was gonna kill someone.
But I was alone in thinking and feeling this, nobody else around me felt and thought the way I felt.
Nowadays things are changing a little and I hope that that is a good sign.

That moment I felt so alone with how I felt was the moment I saw the clip of "Overcome" with all that words and lines.
It was as if Live was asking my questions, and answering them!
In the months after that I started to listen to them.
"V" was at the beginning too right in my face, so I listened and bought "The distance to here" first (okay, I'm a softy).
It was as if Ed told me: I've been there before and this is what I've found!

It took long until I had the feeling that I had figured the whole thing out.
But I was happy with what Ed actually taught me!
Everybody is entitled to be treaten equal and be peaceful to yourself and others.
You can not change the past, but you can try to be happy that you have survived and you can learn from it.
Meanwhile I bought all the albums!
Since I really think that I understand what Ed tells me I find myself in a sort of "V" state of mind (at least the first 6 songs), but I feel as if I can see the BoP and the Black Mountain.
And all I want is to get there!

But I'm maybe too enthusiast in achieving that and I want to take you all with me!
I was blaming a lot of people for not seeing what Live wants to tell you.
But I have to blame myself, for being too enthusiast and asking too much from most of you now.
I understand now why people dig "V", it's too happy for them now and they think that it can't be real (but believe me Live was real, Live is real and will always be real).
But people in the "V" state of mind should remember where they come from and that most people will be fine.
So, sorry for the people I refused to understand and the ones I hurt.
I should know better.

GvB.

couple of things.... every teen goes through that period, it's called growing up.

I grew up where you live nowadays and I used to listen to Nirvana and TC, MJ, SS and a whole other list of socalled "dark" albums.... I never perceived em in a "I just need to shoot myself" state of mind (I know, good for me.)

I am really sorry to read that you (seemed to be) really depressed and all of that. And I am glad that you are seeing hope and the socalled "light" and stuff like that. Life is really a much better place when you see it in all the beauty it has to offer....

But you have to understand that about 99% of people on this board aren't in the state of mind you were, or are. Or maybe even happier or sumthin. You don't need to defend your view on any albums, just as much as I dont have to explain why I like an album like SS so much. The whole of the album gives me everything besides a dark view on things, honest.

And you shouldnt blame yourself for voicing your opinion, never. Freedom of speech is one of the most valuable things out there. Cherish it!

And last, I dont want to make you feel bad for writing anything at all. I am just trying to explain that some other people growing up in Duiven at that time (and honest to god, I lived there) experienced life in a whole different way.... So, no offense

Wendy

Yes, but I was really always the "strange one", as I attended regular schools in spite of my disability.
It has scarred me, but at the other hand it made me the woman I'm now.
It left some good things too. And I can honestly say that not my entire childhood and teenage years were bad.
But if I ever come up with: being young rules or some nonsense like that, ask then where I live then, come to that place....and shoot me. wink.gif

I grew up here and I still live here and that's no problem to me, because Duiven is where my home is.
And I know that not everybody sucks here.
But I'm on my way together with a few other people to teach certain people who have screwed things up here the lessons they deserve.
No worries, it will be peacefull lessons (I keep an eye on that).
And they have just had lesson one.
And I hope that everybody hangs on until Duiven is the village it deserves to be.

Well, Duiven itself did not make me wanna shoot myself and at that time not everybody sucked.
And there are still nice people around.
You know, one of my best friends lives in Duiven too, and she was already a friend of mine 20 years ago.
And my family never stuck me behind the wallpaper, whatever happened.
They are so cool! cool.gif smile.gif

I think that I have listened to the wrong music during the wrong time.
I'm quiet sensitive for the effect of the music and lyrics I love. (Duh!)

The only thing I wanna learn is how to be outspoken without hurting anyone.
I want to learn to be outspoken without being rude, but I'm on my way.
