I've always loved this song, Ed's voice at his best at the end when hi sings "It's the end of.....
Only bad thing was the effect of his voice. Too poppy, but else great song! Simple, but we can still feel a work in it.

Thank you master of the site!!

I love it. But I can't help but think that if it was released today like this, many here would trash it and make fun of the sha la la parts like they did on The River. I can see it now "Aw, Ed is corny and a sell-out because he sings sha la la like a wussy." I guess one might say that whoever talked Ed out of singing the sha la la parts on this track should have been around when he tracked the vocals on The River.

As for whether Ed had more inspiration when he did this song compared to now, I would say definitely not, for two reasons. One, I think Ed is incredibly inspired right now, but it is inspiration by beauty and love and compassion and peace and contentment, whereas before it was by searching and struggling for truth and meaning. No less inspiration now, just different inspiration. I would say that he is actually more inspired now. His new inspiration may not be for everyone and may not be for those who really dug what he created from his old inspiration. But as someone who loves to hear these new, beautifully inspired songs about love and awakening, because I am on my own path of awakening, I really like the new material.

I honestly think that the only factor that really differentiates the quality of the music during the era in which this was recorded and SFBM is the way the songs are produced and arranged. Yes there are other differences, but I think that the main difference is the production. The core of the songs on SFBM are amazingly beautiful and inspired and retain Live's strengths that are displayed on every album except BoP (in my opinion). I think Get Ready could be a modern day Mirror Song if it was recorded and produced differently. I think Love Shines could be a modern day They Stood Up For Love if it was recorded and produced differently. I think Night of Nights is a modern day Ghost. I get the same inspirational message from All I Need and You Are Not Alone that I get from Run To The Water and The Distance.

Oh, and of course, thanks Dan!
