Looks like every time you turn around there is another lawsuit.

Live's former management group seeks more than a quarter of a million dollars in suit
Mike Argento

The legal entanglements of the rock band Live have become even more complicated now that its former management firm has filed for arbitration seeking more than a quarter of a million dollars.

Media Five, a management firm headquartered in Bethlehem, Pa., claims that the band owes it more than $250,000 from two contracts members of the band signed pledging 20 percent of its income to the firm in 1990 and 1994.

The notice, filed with the American Arbitration Association regional office in Philadelphia, claims that the band violated the contracts and failed to fully account for its income over the years covered by the contract.

Further, according to its demand for arbitration, the management group alleges that members of Live “failed and refused” to provide accountings of proceeds from recording agreements, music publishing and other income.

The management group also asserts that the group “failed and refused” to provide access to its books and accounting records.

The arbitration request asks that the band provide “a full accounting of all income, advances and purchase prices paid or derived from musical compositions, sound recordings, artwork, logos, and related merchandise” that the band earned during the life of the contracts.

The arbitration request names all four members of the band, lead singer Ed Kowalczyk, guitarist Chad Taylor, bass player Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey, as well as Action Front Unlimited, the band’s incorporated entity.

Live, which grew from a group of friends from York who reached the highest levels of rock stardom, has disintegrated over the years and has been mired in lawsuits and legal entanglements.

The former CEO of United Fiber & Data, Live's fiber optic venture, Bill Hynes, is currently facing charges of stealing more than $4 million from the business, an accusation he denies.
