I think it's more about the underlying blockchain technology than that particular platform. Wavlake just uses a combination of an RSS feed and Bitcoin. There are other projects/platforms out there being developed like Audius, Metronome, or Bitsong.

Blockchains are basically just open/transparent ledgers. The thinking is that smart contracts on a transparent network will finally help give proper/accurate value to artists, or at the very least the songwriters who write the songs, because it gives a true accounting of all streams of a song where each stream comes with a micropayment. It's not based on some arbitrarily decided number the record label comes up with or Spotify or whoever. Every stream is quantified and verified on the chain. Royalties would no longer have to be "collected" where the songwriter has to wait days, weeks, or months and trust that they're not getting fucked over somewhere. They would be instantaneously paid whatever the amount/percentage is established.

There's more to it than that, but I'm trying to learn about it. The old music industry guard probably won't want to get on board with it, and will fight it, but they'll eventually have to either get on board or go fuck themselves once these networks and platforms get up and really running in earnst and newer artists just bypass the old version of the industry altogether.

Idk... it's something interesting to think about at least.
