I follow Billy Corgan on Instagram and he always opens himself up for questions. Often answering 50+ a day.

A while back he was asked what he thought about Ed rejoining the band and he said he was happy.

Anyway, today he was asked another Live related question.

Billy Corgan is remastering the Machina 1 + 2 albums at the moment. 50+ tracks on those.

The band also has released a 20+ track new album and have another stack of songs in the pipeline.

I'm not even a big SP fan but got to respect Billy's work rate.

My top two fav bands.

Billy has been saying that the Machina reissue is right around the corner since he first announced he's working on it in 2014. The bullshit coming out of Billy's mouth about that release date has been absurd over the years. Looks like he is finally getting to work on it, although I'm praying he doesn't ruin it. He's already lost a bunch of masters. The Machina reissue is the only reason to pay attention to SP at this point. Billy does continue to release recordings, but everything recorded since 2001 has been mediocre at best.

Oh, so many things to say.

There were legal issues that held up Machina for years, although I don't remember what the problem was off top of head. That said, Billy makes a lot of grand proclamations. Take everything with a grain of salt until there's an actual release date. Remember how there SP was going to release 2 albums in 2014? Or how he formed some side band with Jeff, Jimmy, Sierra Swan and one or two more people around the same time? Pretty sure there was another side project around then too. And he's already talking about how he's going to have a 33 song album next year sometime? I'll believe it when it actually comes out. Oh, and he's a moron for comparing it in any way to MCIS - how can he possibly meet those expectations?

That said, his best songwriting days are behind him for sure. While I'm onboard with plenty after 2001, the last ten years - since he discovered the synthesizer - have been a lot more bad than good. I didn't like the 2018 album but Cyr is by far the worst thing he's ever released. Every song blends together and there's not a single one I was interested in hearing again. Seeing him and Iha and Jeff on the cover of guitar magazines is hilarious since I'm not sure that latter two are even on Cyr. The album even makes Jimmy's drumming boring. It sounds like The Future Embrace but that album is so much better compared to this.

The 2010-2013 live shows were definitely a step down from the 2007-8 cycle but not nearly as bad as the 2014-5 lineup with Brad Wilk - he's been great with Rage and Audioslave but was AWFUL with SP. Really really bad fit. Personally, I enjoyed the 3 hour 2018 reunion show. One of the highlights was Billy letting Iha do most of the talking - don't think he said a word outside of singing until 2+ hours into the show. 2019 was okay but not as good as the arena tour.

Oh, and to Pingfah: Machina II has some really great songs on it. I like Machina a lot but Machina II well worth revisiting. If taste wasn't so subjective, I'd suggest checking out Cash Car Star (either version), Lucky 13, Soul Power, Glass' Theme (regular/short version), Dross.... Let Me Give the World to You is a great song but the Adore era version is better. Here's a remastered version if you're interested: https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-09-05. Enjoy!
