Quarantine sucks without Līve.

My hope with this thread, is to bounce around some ideas Līve could do for a “Quarantine Stream,” as many artists are currently doing right now. What could they do to break the monotony, and give fans something to look forward to? Be specific, the possibilities are endless and are not just tied to tiny desk concerts. Maybe they will see it, and grant a wish. (Yes, you might notice I’m being a little facetious here, but I’m a little bored).

I’ll start... for a quarantine stream, I’d like to see Ed perform an acoustic 10,000 Years. I’d also like to see PAT (when is the last time any of us heard him talk?!) show us his vinyl collection (I just know he has to have one!).

I think the band is together for the money, puts in the minimum effort, and Chad G and Pat still don't care for Ed.

Of course it doesn't! That would be to Ed's detriment which we all know is now allowed (as we've seen with the disappearance of The Turn).

I met for 10 minutes Chris CT and CG before a show in Quebec in the summer of 2014....believe me that at that moment, I don't think a reunion was in the books. Or they were hiding it very well. CT wasn't cheering for Ed at the time, said a couple of bad comments and laughed about what Ed was doing at some soundchecks when they were doing some kind of intros to Sofia. My gut says CT really hates anything related to Songs from black mountain. Who can blame him?

Not surprising at all. CCP were absolutely livid and vicious. I don't know to what degree it was warranted though but that's what made this reunion thing so bitter to me.

That is true. But it always seemed to me it wasn't out of kindness or respect but more because he wanted everyone to talk about him. I could be wrong of course but ever since the V era, I've seen Ed as a singing Ego.

Even though I am anti-Shinn, I will not argue with any of this.

To me, he was the best thing to happen to that band since the end of the 90's. And I'm not even a Chris Shinn fan per say but I felt like Live was back when he joined and I love The Turn, whereas CCP became Ed's backing band in the 00's.

No offense, but your views arent even close to unbiased. Everyone entitled to their own opinion but wow. There is def a grey area to everything in life, including the many problems within Live, but you can continuously blame everything on Ed, which seems to be unfair.

Of course it's not unbiased, I'm not a journalist.

That being said I was a huge fan of Live AND Ed until he started disappearing up his own ass. I'd say the point that started it was an interview during the V era. He was telling the journalist that he wasn't the kind of guy to go to the desert and write an album or something along those lines (it has been 20 years). The journalist said "that's strange you said the exact opposite the last time you were here" referring to The Distance to Here era... I remember finding it disappointing.

Then he filmed himself crying and singing Overcome a capella on September 11th. I took offense to that. This was not a day to make it about him. Some people found that beautiful but I had a much more cynical reaction. It was inappropriate at best. Then he even used it to create a full video of... him... with candles and shots of the scenes and the footage of him singing on the day it happened. It was all in bad taste to me.

But everything he did after kind of felt like it had to revolve around him. He also became the sole songwriter which resulted in two awful and boring records. That's my opinion of course.

Everything he did seemed so fake to me after that. So when he left for a solo career and Chad started giving us all the inside information about Ed, not only did it not surprise me, it solidified my feeling about him.

Then Chris joins and they're making good rock music again whilst Ed is making Songs From Boring Mountain MKII and MKIII. I listen to interviews, watch his videos and, again, my fakedar is going crazy.

Then during the Shinn era, we learn more and more about Ed which, again, solidifies my feelings about him.

Of course there are grey areas and CCP were mad. But like I explained, my feelings about Ed didn't start with his departure.

Finally, they annouce that Ed is coming back, which we all expected even Chris. I'm ready to give Ed a chance! Having the original band is always going to be better! And maybe it was just a phase! Maybe he needed to be a solo artist and just figured it out after two records with CCP as his backing band. That can happen! Plus, there's no way he hasn't changed after all what CCP said about him in the past 7 years!

But no. We learn that they basically told Shinn to F himself because... well Chad had a beer with Ed and now they're best buddies again!

Then they erase the last 7 years of existence and the The Turn disappears from absolutely everywhere... we musn't remind Ed that the band was able to continue without him... That was an insult not just to Chris, but to fans, especially those who stuck around during that era.

Some people compared that situation to a divorce, saying that's it's normal to want to get rid of your ex's pictures. That's crap. You can still buy Van Halen's 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge or Balance. They don't pretend like Sammy Hagar was never in the band and these records were never made!

So sorry if I'm unfair to Ed and CCP but I have a high intolerance to bullshit and there was a lot thrown at us by all 4 (and maybe 5 if we include Chris) members and I'm not having that. I prefer "no comments" to any kind bullshit. And I say this because they don't owe us information. But don't feed us shit and call it steak.

I have stated my reasons times before, but it’s been a while. To sum up quickly as I can...
I believe it to be factual, that if your former lead singer is still alive, and walking on this green Earth, you cannot successfully carry your band on, unless your replacement lead singer is as equally good as, or better than the former. In example:Sammy Hagar -Van Halen accomplished this. It is very rare. CS was no where close to Ed’s level. I believe it to be factual, CS’s stage presence and ability as a frontman was/is no where close to Ed’s.

If Līve had renamed themselves and carried on with CS, and he never had covered Ed’s songs, their project, The Turn, would have had way more acceptance and success.

Those are facts. My opinion is, he is not that great of a singer... 100’s like him... and I didn’t like his look.

I totally agree though. Chris was not a good singer for Live. He had a hard time with lyrics, his onstage presence felt off.

But when I say he was the best thing to happen to the band I mean that it was about the music again, or so it seemed, and not about The Singer.

It's funny that you used the Van Halen comparison, I also did that before reading your comment. It's the most obivous example of course.

Nailed it. I’m fine with Chris Shinn as the lead singer of Unified Theory, not the lead singer of Live.

I have absolutely no problem with Kevin Martin as the lead singer of TGF, but wouldn’t be a fan of him performing Pain Lies on the Riverside.
