I went, but knew it would be the same despite the proximity to York. I had hope for the hometown shows last year with Counting Crows and was sadly disappointed.

I will say this, and it surprises even me: the show works, for the most part. A few songs in I just decided to watch it as though I were a casual fan. Before the show I didn't even understand why casual fans of these bands would be buying tickets (last summer I don't think those were casual fans, those were Counting Crows fans) but alas, once there, I couldn't deny: these were casual fans, just doing something with their evening. And while not a sell out, it was a decently full house.

I would have LOVED to see a DAOC opener...but I can't deny this crowd probably ate up All Over You much more than they would have DAOC. By the time Ed segues into Losing My Religion and explains why they are playing it, it seems to make sense. And on and on. We know the choreography to Lakini's Juice and White Discussion and can see it is just theatrics, but these casual fans were crapping their pants. Once I allowed myself to forget all my complaints and watch the enjoyment of those around me, I managed to have a good time.

I will say however: the crowd LOVED Shit Towne so I think (based solely on this one observation, of course) other people who have suggested these crowds don't know the deeper catalogue might be wrong. Also the people around me were somewhat baffled by the appearance of Paint It Black. I think the setlist (for casuals) would work even better by taking out Paint It Black and adding Iris or Waitress or something, and moving the slow ending to the middle and close with Lakini-->WD. Of course I'd personally love a complete different setlist but I gotta tell you these people ate it up.
