Why are the setlists getting shorter? Live started the tour playing 14 and now it's down to 12.

I attended the show. Here are my unorganized thoughts.

The venue was almost entirely full, although many tickets on Stubhub were listed below face value. Unlike the Counting Crows show I attended where Live took the stage to a half empty amphitheater that filled in over time, the venue was practically full by the time Live took the stage. Live did the video intro for TC, but did not play TDAOC or Iris which was heartbreaking. While I personally would have preferred more Live songs than the covers, the covers got the biggest reactions/participation from the crowd (second only to maybe Lightning Crashes). Ed did not read lyrics from the ground, but he did fuck up on Give Me Shelter.

Between the three bands and set times, this really is a show catered to middle aged casual fans. No band played too long. I'm a casual Bush fan and I got to hear all the songs I know, plus a couple more. I'm sure that was the takeaway for the average person seeing Live. No band really dug into their catalogue. Bush however extended their songs with extended intros, outros, and solos, which is why they do fewer songs than Live.

Ed talked a lot, and Live could definitely fit in one or two more songs if Ed talked less. He also called for common sense gun control during WD, which I'd never heard him do before.

Overall, this concert is a nice stroll down memory lane in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater. Personally, I prefer GA rock shows. James Taylor can play amphitheaters. I want Live, Bush, and OLP to rock a warehouse. I would imagine that wouldn't sell as many tickets given the makeup of the audience. I think the average 50 year old casual fan loves going to a venue like the Greek, and the amphitheaters are one of the big reasons this show is doing do well.

If I were a promoter, I'd be thrilled with this show. I'm shocked this bill is filling 5-6k venues. They clearly did something right but putting this bill together and picking the venues.

I never got to see Live before the breakup, and now that they're back this is probably my fifth show. Knowing the setlist, I'd probably skip this type of show next go around unless I got cheap tickets. I've seen this setlist, and there are no surprises. It's a great show for a casual fan, but for the die hards it leaves a lot to be desired. I'd also take Live at a festival over an amphitheater, since they tend to play early and you can get close to the stage and meet other diehard Live fans.

I may go see Live at the 9:30 Club in DC and I'll report back if that show feels much different. Really, one of my favorite things about seeing Live these days is meeting other diehard fans, who at GA shows can all be found right up front. I really didn't meet any diehards this time around. More people were there to see Bush, and the people around me were all casuals. I'm hoping the 9:30 Club show will be diehards.
