I had decided against the long drive to this show, but some serious-business-Bush-fans I know at work said, why not. So since I don’t have to drive, I’ll be there...up front in the Pit. rockin.gif I’m hoping, praying for Spew in the setlist. That would make all worthwhile.

I can’t ever sleep after concerts, so I’ll post my review. Starting with the positives:

-It rained before the concert, and stayed mostly cloudy which made the outdoor show tolerable.
-Was hoping I’d land front row for Līve one day. Check that off my bucket list.
-I met some really cool people at this show.
-Cool to see some parents bring their kids; a new generation of fans.
-Ed sounded great.
-Iris!
-The best part was Chad. He is a beast. I love standing on his side of the stage. He loves what he does and it shows.

The not-so positives (most have been expressed here before):

-No Dam at Otter Creek (noooo!), so no Ed entering through the audience, and no digital screen backdrop. Is this because it was an outside concert?
-The cover songs were not that enjoyable. So many songs in Līve’s catalog, they could do instead, it’s a shame.
-I heard a guy behind me yelling between songs, “HOLD ME UP!” I don’t understand why Live just doesn’t give the people what they want.
-Pretty much the same show as last summer, so it just wasn’t as exciting this time around.
-The Heaven, TMH, & LC ending is boring. They need to end with a bang.
-Līve was billed last, and should have closed the show & didn’t. I can see why it’s best for Bush to close, however. Let me explain...

I’d never seen Bush in concert before, and all these years I’ve just been neutral about them. But OMG, they came out and the crowd who was quite demure for Līve absolutely lit up, went crazy for Bush. Gavin had the moves, and was sex on two legs. Consummate rock star. Sad to say, and I feel bad admitting it, he made Ed look a little cheesy. I have to hand it to Gavin. Bush rocked our faces off with EVERY song. Towards the end of the set (maybe song before last), they finally slowed it down with Glycerine, and that was it for slow songs. Bush was an absolutely awesome show, with awesome fans all around. It left me feeling sad as a Līve fan. As many of us have said over and over, Līve just needs to headline in smaller venues, and cater to their hardcore, cult following, with deeper cuts in the setlist. I wish to experience what Bush fans experienced tonight. On Bush’s last song, a gal standing beside me giddily said, “I’m smiling so much, my cheeks are sore!” I was so elated for her, I gave her a five, and she held onto my hand, and we joyously danced a bit, and she said, “This was BEAUTIFUL!” It was. I am happy for their fans, but at the same time, envious that Līve wasn’t the same. cry.gif

I saw Foxwoods and Gilford, and both sets opened with DAOC. Also, Gilford was an outdoor show and they had the video screens. So idk. The thread on that show has my videos.

Actually the pattern seems to be that the band billed first is the closing act. Foxwoods and Gilford were billed as "Bush and Live," and Bush closed. Boston, 2 nights before Gilford, was "Live and Bush," and Live closed.

Here's my take, based on the 2 shows I saw.

Bush puts on a more integrated show. The light show, for example, is hugely important. It accentuates and punctuates the music. It's more flashy and a lot of strobe. My yt channel also has Everything Zen and Machinehead, and they use a ton of fiery reds and orange.

In contrast, Live's lighting is about setting mood and atmosphere. The emphasis is on the music. They use a generally cooler color palette of blues and violets, which tend to evoke sadder, subdued emotions. Even when they warm it up with oranges and reds, such as the chorus of Selling the Drama, it reverts to the cooler colors during the verses.

Thank you. So now my next guess is, it was the rainy weather prior to the concert which caused them to axe the video screen & DAOC.

Very insightful and legitimate theory on the lighting affecting the crowd’s mood.
I’ll check out your videos.
