“Freaking Hilarious Setlist Opinions” is the title of this thread, because that’s what it seems possibly the real Chad Gracey commented two hours ago on the FOL Facebook setlist discussion, and I’m quite taken aback by that. What are we, chopped liver? The conversation includes Bill Hynes telling fans that promoters demand artists play certain songs. I don’t see a promoter demanding Līve play “Losing My Religion” and “Paint It Black.” shrug.gif Hynes also took offense to someone calling this a money grab. -That it is indeed a money grab because this is how Līve pays their bills.— I totally get that. I have no problem helping Līve pay their bills, but that goes two ways here. I freaking work my ass off too, for way less. And I bought a concert ticket and am driving 8 hours away because all I wanted to see and hear this summer was my all time favorite band play “Hold Me Up”, not “Losing My Religion.” Now for CG to say that my (fans) opinions are freaking hilarious is rubbing salt in my wound.

I am sorry guys but i do not see anything wrong with Chad's response. And i totally agree with him about the internet, social networking and expression of opinions.

You don’t have to be sorry. I’d like to hear more in detail how you think the internet and social networking has changed how people express their opinions. I’m guessing, and I think maybe CG was hinting at this, that people get more brave with what they say and how they say it, hiding behind a keyboard. Also of course, it’s instantaneous and easy to express opinions, whether good or bad. But opinions, including negative ones, have existed forever. I remember having pen pals with common interests in music back in the day, and we’d discuss our opinions about bands, good and bad. —Same thing. Just write it on paper, stick it in an envelope, and stamp it. Anyway, I don’t think anyone was being mean or disrespectful in that thread. Just staying their disappointment with the covers. We have the right to be, as we spend our cash to hear it. Just saying.

It is easy indeed to express an opinion behind a keyboard and many times people abuse this contemporary way of communication and networking. It is easy because people think they are less accountable and less likely to be exposed. In other words, there is more "anonymity" or absence direct identification even when people use their real names. There is no direct context of deep discussion and learning from each other.

It is fine to express opinions; that’s democracy and opinions have improved many situations. However, opinions very often, in social media specifically, are not well thought-out and substantiated. And i am not referring to you; actually you are one of the few members whose opinion i highly value.
