I wish Ed would stop holding the mic to the audience, especially at festivals, on the bridge of I Alone. The casual fan does not know the words to the bridge. Heck, I've heard that song thousands of times, and gun to my head, I'm not sure I could get it 100% right. In fact, let's try it. This is what I think it is....

Oh now you took it back to far,
only love can save us now,
all these riddles that you burn,
all come running back to you,
all these riddles that you hide,
only love can save us now,
all these riddles that you burn, yeah yeah yeah...

Just Googled it and, yup, it turns out I got a few words wrong. This is what it actually is.

Oh, now, we took it back too far
Only love can save us now
All these riddles that you burn
All come runnin' back to you
All these rhythms that you hide
Only love can save us now
All these riddles that you burn yeah, yeah, yeah

Point is, in 2017, the casual concertgoer can't sing along to this. It's also my favorite part of the song (even if I don't know all the words) and I'd rather hear Ed sing it then a silent audience.

In general, I'm not a huge fan of mic to the audience at all, but if Ed must point the mic to the audience, do it once during the chorus of Lighting Crashes and on the line "I Alone tempt you" on I Alone. That's it.

I hate mic to the crowd. Saw Depeche Mode and they did this to every chorus of Enjoy the silence.

The reason he is doing this, is because he cant sustain singing that hard and high pitched throughout the whole chorus anymore. By allowing the crowd to break it up allows his vocal chords to relax for just a couple seconds so they don't get weak. I sing this song at Karaoke, and towards the end of the choruses, It's very easy to run out of steam!

I agree that I hate it when he does it, because I feel it ruins the flow of the song. But I understand why he does it.

On a side note, things that "I wish Ed would stop doing?"... Acting like he's revving a throttle of a motorcycle when he's singing Lakini's Juice. "Let me riiiiiddddeeeee" facepalm.gif

You are spot on as to why he holds the mic to the crowd, and so yea, because I understand it doesn't bother me.

I also agree with the motorcycle throttle thing. While I 110% love having Ed back and think that he sounds absolutely great, the 1997 Saturday Night Live Lakini's Juice Ed would have NEVER done that hand gesture. That's what I wish... I wish he'd be an animal on stage again like he used to. I know he's still got it in him.

Also agree that Ed and Chad's dance at the end of LJ is way cool.
