It is certainly why I am here. I always love re-watching that video. This is what makes Live truly special.

A couple of take-aways that I noted. Chad Taylor talked about how their spirituality was (is) the central part of their lives and he likes that Live conveys a uniquely individualized approach to universal spirituality. And then it cuts to him saying that they are not writing the music for anybody else. They are writing it for themselves because they need it. And it just so happens that thousands and thousands of other people also need it.

Count me as one of those thousands. That is what always has spoken to me. Mental Jewelry and Throwing Copper changed me. And that is what i hope they can continue to do. Write music for themselves because they need it. Not to regain popularity. Or tap into modern pop music. That is what I personally think caused them to go wrong with V and BoP and SFBM. And today - in the environment we have in this world today, I think they and we all need the spirit of old Live more than ever.

Other nice point, Ed said that lyric, melody and music all come together in this intense experience and it is alchemy. That is not something you get from a solo tour with session musicians. That is something that I imagine he gets from Live.

Lastly, after listening to Mental Jewelry again this morning, I would say that Mental Jewelry and Throwing Copper were essentially filled with songs that attack ego. And try to point toward the path to love and overcome ego. TDTH, was a little more emphasis on the path of love. It was less angry about ego. Then V was a stranger weirder expression of that. Then I think the thing lost its way after that.

This video is all well and good but the "spirit of LIVE" doesn't exist anymore.

At some level it never did. Have you all ignored the fact that Ed was exposed as a plagiarist on much of his material and was LITERALLY SHUNNED by many artists who found him to be a fraud?

His early lyrics were straight rips from literary contexts. He wasn't some insightful young kid. He was a lost youth ripping lyrics from shit he didn't understand.

It worked for a time. Then he "found himself" and tried to create his new image and it sucked.

Why do you all put Ed up on a pedestal?

Got any examples of the plagiarism?

Who shunned Ed?

Did the lead singer of Tool slam Ed? I can't remember the context but it rings a bell.
