The Turn's Best Moments Options

We have a thread for proclaiming our favourite songs, but what about the individual moments scattered throughout the album? I've got a couple that really stick out.

First, an obvious one. The second verse in 6310 Rodgerton Dr.:

As the monster came alive
I count four not five
The news teams and the cameras crews
Can't hear myself scream as I'm calling for you
And the master tapes of songs you'll never hear
The neighbors they just stand and stare
The blisters on my hands and on my bleeding feet
As I drag you out through the broken door

That whole passage is absolutely stunning. The delivery is brilliant because it really gives you that sense of how everything almost slows down and in a second his mind is firing all over the place trying to digest the carnage around him. Obviously it's Chris' personal story which makes it all the more special, and I think it's a really fantastic moment on the album.

The second moment I want to highlight is from He Could Teach The Devil Tricks. Oddly enough, again it's the second verse:

Yeah you, you were the mystic and the healing force
All the stars following their course
And yet it tears and pulls apart
The fabric of the universe

The lyrics, the imagery, the music, the vocals - this is absolutely sen-fucking-sational. It's Live through and through. I know it isn't Ed's voice, but I can't fathom how anybody could listen to this passage and not hear the spirit of Live soaring. Just like the music that opens Gas Hed Goes West, this passage destroys me right in the fucking feels.

What about you folks? What particular lyrics, music, singing - what stuff do you really love from The Turn?

Absolutely agree on both accounts. Particularly that passage from 6310. As you say, it portrays that absolute carnage and a mind flying all over the place trying to digest what is going on. In a live performances, I mentioned this before, but when Chris delivered the line "And the master tapes of songs you'll never hear" he paused after, almost staring into space for just a split second longer than the song would dictate. It was as if he was still feeling it and only then even realised the line. That put up against the cost of human life, who gives a fuck about the master tapes...yet your mind still darts there because you're not consciously in control. 6310, that passage, it really conveys a guy totally baring his soul.

Agreed on He Could Teach The Devil Tricks.

I'd add the chorus of By Design. Oddly, it gives me a similar feeling to Flow. Completely different song, and Flow isn't a great song. But Flow just makes me feel good. Almost in a way that no other song does, weirdly. I just have really strong personal connections to it being played at a good time. By Design, when the chorus kicks in, I just feel good. Its less about the words, it just makes me want to get into it and feel it.
