Thank you for posting. Looks like a sick show, makes me wish I still lived in the Philly area.

Live plays Lancaster; crowd looking for band's older music
Fans aren't sure about Live's new lead singer

Many in the over-21 crowd at the 105.7 The X-Mas Show at the Chameleon Club Thursday night didn't come to hear Live's new music, which the band came to promote during its latest tour.

Many, like Heather Barrett, 29, of Mountville, came to hear the music they fell in love with in elementary school.

"I like more of the old era," she said.

Greg Diritto, 34, who attended the show from Harrisburg, said he's more of a "'Throwing Copper' guy," Live's second album. He said he has listened to a few songs from Live's newest album, "The Turn," released in October, but wasn't sure how he felt about its new sound. This is the first album release with Live's new lead singer, Chris Shinn.

Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer, Chad Gracey and Ed Kowalczyk grew up in York and formed Live in the 1980s. Through the 1990s, Live soared to fame, as a string of their albums went platinum and they embarked on world tours. In 2012, Shinn replaced former lead singer Kowalczyk.

"I'm torn between Live without Ed and Live with the new singer," Greg Diritto, 34, of Harrisburg, said. "I like the old Live."

Maha Harrison, 37, of Avondale, described the new album as more "mainstream and upbeat" than Live's previous music.

But whether fans liked the new music or not, the crowd of mid-20 to 60-year-olds erupted in cheers when Live took the stage after earlier performances from Har Mar Superstar and Heroes 4 Ransom.

Live kicked off the show with "The Way Around is Through," from the band's new album and "Selling the Drama" from the band's second album, "Throwing Copper."

Annett Kennedy, of Lancaster, said she before the show that she had watched YouTube videos of Live perform with its new singer and wasn't impressed. After hearing the first two songs, her feelings were the same.

"The band sounded great," she said, "but the lead singer isn't as strong as the original."

Kennedy's friend, Jim Aten, on the other hand, said that this was the best $12 he's spent in a long time.

"I'd pay $12 just to hear 'Selling the Drama,'" he said.
