Here's my list...

1. Secret Samadhi - Not only my favorite LIVE record, it's one of my all time favorite albums by any artist. That CD sat in my car CD player for months without being removed. It's all I listened to. My favorite song from it is "Graze". Got to see their show at The Beacon in NYC just after the album was released and it's my all time favorite concert of theirs also. Besides them, saw the Fun Lovin' Criminals that night and am still a fan of theirs to this day as well.

2. Throwing Copper - Crazy enough but "Horse" is my favorite on this CD. It's great all the way through and is the one that struck a chord with people all over.

3. The Distance To Here - I was fortunate enough to get tickets from the FOL club to the Irving Plaza show. So cool to see the band at the height of their popularity performing at a venue with less than 500 people. On stage they were really firing on all cylinders. "Voodoo Lady" and "Where Fishes Go" are my favorites from TDTH.

4. Mental Jewelry - To me, this one songs so much different than all of their other releases. It's their most bare boned set musically, featuring much more acoustic sounds. I bought MJ after Throwing Copper and didn't like it nearly as much as TC but it's grown on me and I can now appreciate it as the big label birth of Live. Favorites are "10,000 Years Peace Is Now" and "Brothers Unaware".

5. V - I remember that this CD was leaked before the release and I downloaded it from one of those sites back then. It was quite a change for the boys and I think it started the downward popularity of the band with the general public. I enjoyed it for the most part but it's quite uneven with some real winners (Forever May Not Be Long Enough, Simple Creed) and some real losers (Deep Enough, Transmit Your Love) I had heard the live version of Deep Enough before the CD was released and they really butchered that one in the studio for me. I wasn't really fond of Ed's Fast & Furious rap style era.

6. The Turn - There are some really great songs on this CD for me "Natural Born Killers", "6310 Rodgerton Dr" and "The Way Round Is Through" are outstanding and take me back to the days of Secret Samadhi while sounding somewhat current. I think the thing that bothers me a bit about this CD is the same thing that I love. It just sounds familiar to me. I find some of the riffs and drum breaks seem lifted from parts of their earlier works. The 1st minute of The Way Round Is Through sounds just like bridge in "I Alone" and the drum break to start the chorus in "Natural Born Killers" reminds me of the same one at the start of the chorus to "Unsheathed". It's not that big of a deal to me, it's just something that pops into my head when I play this CD.

7. Birds of Pray - When it was released I remember Ed stating in a video on the website that it was a return to the sound of Live with "no keyboards on it" in a roll eyes kind of voice. While he might be correct that it was a back to basics kind of recording, it just seem kind of forced. It just didn't click and while there were some good songs for me like "She" and "Lighthouse", there were some real stinkers. "What Are We Fighting For" and "Bring The People Together" are two of their worst on any album in my opinion.

8. The Songs of Black Mountain - Here's the crazy thing. I like this album alot. However, it just doesn't seem like a Live record. It definitely has the feel of an Ed solo record. In that context, it's his finest solo release to date. "Wings" and "Sofia" are my favorites. It's got a pop rock feel to it so I can understand how many Live fans aren't fans of it at all but hey, my favorite band of all time is Hall and Oates so I can appreciate a well crafted pop song with a catchy hook. Not all music has to make me want to thrash around or solve all the world's problems. It's just simple, enjoyable throwaway pop rock music but it's not a true Live record to me which is why I ranked it last.
