I've noticed in the ED vs TGF threads that some of us seem to have wildly different tastes in music, which is actually really cool.

I'm curious how everyone here would answer the following questions:

1) Between the examples we've heard of Ed's new music and the examples we've heard of TGF, which type of music is more your style?

2) What OTHER bands do you love/like?

3) WHY and WHEN did you gravitate to Live's music?

I think it would be really interesting to see the trends these answers would probably show.

Unfortunately, I figure it would take about 4 posts before someone was mocking someone else's reply or bitching about Ed or claiming TGF is evil or whatever. nervous.gif

But if that kind of crap didn't happen, and we all answered, don't you think there would be some noticeable trends? I sure do.

Nice topic! I'll bite! Sorry I didn't see this when it originally posted.

1. TGF, hands down. I haven't been a fan of Ed since he went completely God-loving spiritual. Saw him a few months ago in Seattle as my "goodbye". I'm not a fan of his direction at all, but I respect others that do. It's just not my thing.

2. Dream Theater is my #2. Saw them in April in support of their new tour and it rocked so hard I'm still feeling it. I also like Dire Straits, old Depeche Mode, old Pearl Jam (their first 3 records), Dishwalla, Alice in Chains, Candlebox, Rush, and I'm super into Lorde right now and various other electronic music, specifically Sk'p and Chris Randall and his Micronaut releases.

3. I found Live in the Summer of 1996 shortly after my mother passed away. I'd like to think she had something to do with it, because it was exactly what I needed at the time, and I've been a fan ever since. I also started playing drums that same summer. Chad Gracey's drumming was absolutely amazing and inspired me to take it up, and I still play to this day. I couldn't imagine my life without music in it, both the kind I listen to and the kind I create.

With that said, I'm still on the fence about Live's new songs, and I think for the first time ever, I'm going to say that I need to hear the studio versions of the new songs to get a true feeling for them. The videos on YouTube aren't good enough to make a decision. Side note: Even the crappiest early live versions of Vine Street and Deep Enough were awesome, so I hope I was just in a mood when I watched the new songs, but they didn't hit me like most Live songs do.
