In late October, just before his solo album The Flood And The Mercy was released, we invited Ed Kowalczyk (who you know as the former lead singer of Live) to Ridgewood, Queens to play us some songs. Kowalczyk performed two new songs from his album (which, by the way, features R.E.M.'s Peter Buck), as well as "I Alone," and a surprise Bruce Springsteen cover! Tonight he plays his second sold out show in New York, before continuing on with his tour (we highly recommend checking him out if you can). Below, the latest in our Gothamist House series.

I'm a massive fan of ed and i love his voice and music and always will and he's really suited to a gig with a full band. But i've got to say most of his live acoustic performances of seven are quite lame. You can't record a single with a loud passionate climax and then tame it right back for all acoustic performances. It seems when he tries to sing loud these days he can only yell so he doesn't sing loud anymore while acoustic. Its like he's not breathing from the diaphragm or relaxing the throat anymore but just yelling which is a shame because I think just about everything else about his voice has got better and better with age.

Some of his best work of loud singing from the diaphragm with great tone was performing overcome on late show years and years ago and some of this while performing seven would make it amazing but he must have changed his technique?

ps. still really like the album though smile.gif
