This has been my constructive criticism about Ed's approach. He says that he has not done this before now, but I personally think that when the song-writing is driven from the vocalist/lyricist perspective, instead of being cooked up in a collaborative process involving all of the musicians adding their little touches so that the whole thing comes together - you get a less balanced product. The music doesn't open up and speak enough on Ed's solo work and the last few Live albums because, as great as Ed is as a vocalist, he does not excel at writing compelling rock guitar and drum parts and he needs to give up control over those aspects. Now that he is solo, that isn't really going to happen. The result is that his new songs sound like something created for a finalist on the show The Voice or American Idol or X Factor. And frankly, that is probably something that Ed is going for because that is what sells now. Classic Live and TGF have far less of a chance of hitting it big with todays audience because of where music has moved.

But me? I would prefer classic Live or TGF or The Black Keys or Jack White or something with some heart and soul and rock and roll.

I watch the Voice. I can enjoy that stuff. But it isn't my preference. And i don't want Ed or Live doing that sell-out sound. I want them to sound like classic Live cause that's what I signed up for when I became a Freak 4 Live.
