Ed Working On Second Album Options

I hope Ed sells this "new album" at half price. People have already bought the 5 EP songs...and if Ed wants you to pay full price for a "new album" with what will be only half new songs for those that bought the EP then he will have stooped to a new low.

The only way Ed goes lower is if he does the "Album Only" option in iTunes where you can only purchase the new songs if you buy the entire album (thus buying the EP songs again).

First, that is two songs out of 4, not 4 out of 5 (fifth being a cover, so not even his). Why even come out with the EP? To make people buy the songs twice? Like I said, I sure hope not. But if not that, then what? What is the reasoning? And even if there is legit reasoning, you are indirectly forcing people to buy songs they may already have. Look at Diane. She likes to own the CD's. She said it herself. Lot of people do. So she will buy the EP and then buy the album and pay for songs she already has.

Secondly, Live was unknown and probably looking to fill their first Live album. Ed is 20+ years into his career and cutting and pasting EP's into his albums.

Those are the differences I see.

A single is used to get the word out about an album and is just one song on an album of normally 10-12 songs. It is considered the "best" song or most "radio friendly" and is used to play on the radio. Huge difference between using 1 song from the album as a promotion than to release an EP then put all the EP songs on an album that is regular length and having those 4 songs cut into the normal 10-12 songs. If Ed released an album of 16 songs and had the 4 EP songs then it wouldn't be so bad, but Ed is essentially releasing another EP that he combined with this EP.

A Greatest Hits is a compilation over a span of albums. If people already have all the albums they are less likely to buy the Greatest Hits. If they don't then a Greatest Hits is convenient and less costly way of getting all of a bands best songs. For example, I don't own all the Eagles CD's. I do own their 2 Disc Greatest Hits.

What I bold/underline isn't exactly true. Most "greatest hits" releases have something extra that is exclusive to the greatest hits collection that the diehard fans (who own all of the albums) usually ended up buying for that exclusive.

I honestly don't care that Ed is doing what he is, I am just more curious as to why he is doing it. But hey, if the Ed fans don't mind paying double (if that ends up being the case) then more power to them. Sounds like Ed is going to need the money.
