In Ed's head, he is talking about how he has changed from rock and roll excess to finding god/family. Many of us here twist it into him singing about how he has changed to become a guy who backstabs his friends CC&P. This is probably the clearest way I can explain it here for someone who is new to the board

CCP had no problem taking 75 percent song writing credit and money for songs that Ed basically wrote 100 percent himself. I think that is a pretty crummy thing to do to a friend.

On the heels of TDTH, Live fans were clamoring for another rocking album. What they got was V. CT has since explained it was not intended as an official release. Doesn't matter though. What matters is that fans know they don't want to hear Ed rapping. And what happened to the lyric writing? Ed is all over the place here and unfortunately some otherwise rocking music by CCP can't save the abomination that is EK on this album. Surprisingly, we also come to find out the during this time frame Ed began pushing and pushing for more control in the band. And this is what we get with more say from Ed? Everyone knows what happened from here on out with Live. Live had a titanic-like drop in popularity and one need only to trace that to Ed's ever increasing influence on Live. CCP had been carrying him for sometime and once he decided to mute them the ship sank.
