I just watched Live's amazing performance on American Idol for the umpteenth time, and I got to thinking about just how big this could be for the band. Consider this:

36 million people watched the show

Let's say of those 36 million, 30 million saw Live's performance (there's always going to be watchers who only see a portion of a 2-hour show)

Let's say of those 30 million, 33% liked Live's performance. This is an extremely low estimate based on the overall comments I have seen, but I'm just using it to prove a point. Even with only a third of the viewers enjoying the performance, that's still an amazing 10 million people who saw, and liked, the band.

Let's say that of those 10 million people who liked Live's performance (again, this is a pretty low estimate based on the strong comments I have seen/heard about the duet), 10% of those people decide to but SFBM at some point because of what they saw (again, I'm choosing a pretty low estimate - 10% - because I really have no idea of how to accurately project what percentage of viewers who like an appearance they see on tv actually go out and buy something from the artist).

Even with numbers projected at a very low estimate...that's still 1 million people who would buy SFBM because of Live's appearance. That's enough to make the album go Gold AND Platinum, and amounts to far more album sales than any of the band's previous two albums.

I'd say any positive exposure like this is good. It will get people talking about Live... and all the women who voted for Chris because they had the hots for him would have gone WOW! at Ed. lol.gif

Even if only 1% of the audience were interested enough to go and investigate Live's music a little further, that's going to translate into sales. And if the audience was 200 million, that's potentially 2 million people worldwide.

They did sound GREAT and more importantly in this day and age, Ed looked GREAT. Did anybody see Chad T do that little kick... hilarious! The guys looked like they were having a great time.
