The intros to both songs sound very similar.

Do you think the Deftones were influenced by the Death of a Dictionary track or is it just a co-incidence?

I wouldn't rule out inspiration, but if I were a betting man I'd have to go with coincidence. White Pony came out in 2000, well after DOAD.

There's a similar sensibility, but you can only flesh out so many unique things under the sun before you run into something someone has seen or done before. Every note and chord, and probably even inflection in every song, has probably been played over the course of human history many times over in different forms or fashions. We're just recycling.

But that's just my limited opinion. To me it's proof that good music WILL see the light of day if good bands will create and release it. cool.gif
