Celebrity bartenders raise money for York City School District music program

York City Mayor Kim Bracey and "Live" drummer Chad Gracey got together to serve up drinks to benefit the York City School District's music program Thursday night.

"I have helped out, but never done it like this before," Bracey said.

The fundraiser took place at Maewyn's from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Both Bracey and Gracey are former William Penn Senior High band members.

"We really excel academically and socially from the music program. All four of us in the band were in the music program. So I think it's very beneficial," Gracey said.

The school district faced a $19 million deficit earlier this year and considered completely cutting the music program. A last minute boost in state funding allowed the district to keep the program around for this year.

"Music and arts education is really easy to overlook, but it's also one of the big cultural pillars of a successful society," said Wyatt McGuire, who came out to support the cause.

Mayor Bracey said they did not have a specific amount of money they planned to raise, but said they do expect it will be signifiicant.

"We just received a thousand-dollar check and we've been receiving hundred dollars all evening. There are retired teachers here, and people who are just really advocates and supporters of the school district," she said.
